My 7 year old watched an OOTP game with me

The perfect setup. My 7-year-old stepdaughter literally sitting on my knee, watching an early May contest between the Cardinals and the host Reds play out in OOTP.

HER: "Who are you voting for?"
ME: "Um... my team is in white. The dastardly Cardinals are the gray guys."
MY WIFE: "She doesn't know what dastardly means."
ME: "It means they're bad, the Cardinals are the bad ones."

HER: "That guy looks fat!"
ME: "Yeah, that's my fat 37 yr old pitcher who I'm paying 29 million dollars to be mediocre."
WIFE: "Papa doesn't really have that much money. It's his fake pretend thing. He's not actually paying anyone."
ME: "Well... yeah."

ME: "Alright, it's a gapper!"
WIFE: "Papa says all these weird baseball terms."
ME: "I mean, it got hit into the gap between two outfielders. It's pretty self-explanatory."
HER: "Gapper!"

HER: "That guy fell! Why did he fall?"
ME: "He slid. That was a slide."

All went well until she turned on me, figuring out that if my bullpen imploded and the Reds blew their lead, it could mean extra innings and could extend her bedtime. My bullpen did implode, so spectacularly that we lost before extra innings were necessary. No such luck for my 7-year-old traitor.

Great story.

My 6 year watches me play my "Baseball" game. She plays baseball herself and enjoys it. I believe the first thing I told my daughter about baseball was that the Red Sox suck.

Working on my 10 month old now. At 1 year she gets her Yankee Build a Bear.

These memories we will forever remember.

My son used to watch me play games back when he was 3-4 years old and I played OOTP a lot more than I have recently. I told him the other day that I was about to get back into it and his face lit up like a Christmas tree.

My 3-year-old daughter loves to sit with me while I play. I tell her what keys to hit and which team she should be cheering for.

"Catch it! I mean, don't catch it! Yay!!!"

Thank you so much for teaching your daughter a fundamental, universal truth:

Reds good! Cardinals bad!

You'll have to continue with Cubs bad! Pirates bad! as well. Brewers, for some reason, okay to root for when not playing the Reds.

My cats like to watch me play out games. They really get into it, too. When the ball and players move across the screen they make "Ack!" noises and touch the screen with their paws trying to get the little sprites. Unfortunately, they can make it hard to see the screen sometimes, and I have to move them.

Funny you bring this up. My cat loves to sit on my desk and stare at the screen. He does the same thing when I'm playing out a game, bats the players with his paws.

My girls like watching me play and pushing the buttons I tell them to. They are very good about making sure it's the correct button. When I am in the offseason it's tough to explain why I can't play a game.

They absolutely love watching me open packs in PT. I believe they get more excited than I do when a good card comes up. My oldest can identify what I got just based on sound...well, she knows the difference between gold and diamond anyway. She hasn't gotten the perfect card sound memorized yet, unfortunately. Or I should say "black gold" cards...which is what they call them.
