iNHL: getting repeated crash in online league

Hi guys,

The iNHL keeps humming along, so far transitioning the league from FHM5 to FHM6 has worked quite smoothly but now it seems we have hit a snag. The game keeps crashing at a certain date (March 26, 2023) and no matter what we try it keeps doing the same. I have zipped up the league file and PM:d Jeff the link. The entire iNHL would be very grateful if you could have a look at this and if possible fix the file, because so far nothing that we have tried has helped in getting past this date. Here are the things we have tried:

- re-simming from the previous league file, both with and without importing teamfiles first. Game crashes on the same date.
- AI-ing all AHL and ECHL teams, as erroneous minor team rosters have caused crashes in the past
- Manually simming every game of every league on the 26th
- Checking all international tournaments to see if there are any active (there aren't)
- AI-ing all teams of all playable leagues
- Checking all international rosters (incl. junior squads) to see if there are any players there (there aren't)
- Deleting the [db_news] file
- AI-ing all NHL teams
- Clearing all NHL teams' lineups settings

Got it, but it's not crashing for me, I let it run (on the current release build) until April and it continued normally. How about I advance it past the 26th for you (let me know how far to go) and I'll send it back and you can see if it works for you then?

I just loaded up the save and was able to sim ahead. Thanks a lot for the quick help, much appreciated!

Bumping this thread again because we are experiencing a similar issue once again. Simmed all games in all playable leagues and still getting a repeated crash on a certain date. I have applied the newest update (6.8.78).

Also spoke to another online league commissioner and he had a similar issue when simming his league yesterday, also after applying the latest update. I have PM'd the zipped up savefile to Jeff. Thankful for any help!

Just to add that I have tried simming ahead without importing any teamfiles, and still got a crash on the same day.

Another update; I randomly tried again later and then it worked, after getting 10+ crashes earlier today. I was able to finish the rest of the sim without problems. So, no need to look into the savefile, Jeff. Thanks!

Hi again, sorry to keep bothering you but we are now getting quite frequent crashes when simming in the iNHL. Up until now it has mainly been only myself but now also other commissioners are getting a game crash when attempting to sim ahead on certain dates. We have tried the following:

- reinstalling the game
- simming all games in all leagues one-by-one before simming ahead
- running the game on a different machine

These crashes started occurring after the most recent update (6.8.78) was released, not sure if that could have something to do with it? The savefile was ported over from FHM5.

I have PM:d a link to the savefile to Jeff, would be thankful for any help in fixing this issue!

Looks like there was some corruption in the KHL data, possibly related to the FHM5 import. Malte was able to fix it, I've shared the fixed file with you on dropbox.

We are having a similar issue like last time, getting a repeated crash when trying to sim ahead on a certain date. We are at a similar point of the season like last time we got a repeated crash, so it could be the same issue that keeps popping up. I have PM:d a link to the savefile to Jeff, would be very grateful if someone could take a look!

When exactly is it crashing for you? I've advanced it well into the NHL playoffs with no crashes. The cause of the previous crash isn't happening in this case, the KHL has finished its season with no issues.

Thanks Jeff for looking into this quickly. It was crashing when I tried to sim ahead from March 23 to March 24, but I also sent over the file to another commissioner and, just like you, he was able to sim ahead without issues. So, it seems the issue only occurs on my end.
