Does Vada Pinson deserve to be in the Hall of Fame?
His offensive numbers are borderline: .286 with 256 homeruns and 305 SB and 2,757 hits. Add to that world class defense in CF. The only center fielder of that era with a better glove was named Mays. What do you think?

Life Imitates Art - JD. Hammer makes a successful major leagues debut for the Phillies
JD Hammer makes his major league debut (Sunday, May 26) a successful one. He faces the heart of the Milwaukee
Brewers' lineup and gets Christian Yelich to line out to right field, gets Ryan Braun to line out to left field, before striking out Mike Moustakas. With his signature Geek-Glasses and upper 90s fastball, throughout his minor league career, the 24-year-old has drawn comparisons to the Charlie Sheen reliever character in the 1989 baseball comedy classic, "Major League". Upon reaching the majors, those comparisons should only intensify. Last edited by MorganMiller1926; 05-28-2019 at 10:46 AM. |

Pinson was very good, but not great

P.S.: Arguing the merits of players is more appropriately done on other websties such as baseball-fever.com. This website and Gambo and T_wil photopack are more focused on the pictorial history of the game and its players. Last edited by MorganMiller1926; 05-30-2019 at 12:52 PM. |

Take a deep breath, Cheech (and ease up on the CAPS and punctuation). Nobody's pointing fingers.

mystery Royal
Haven't figured him out yet, but the strong horizontal bars at the top of the K in KC suggest the uniform cap is from 1969 or 1970. Should narrow it down. Could be invitee to spring training, as well as major leaguer from those years.

Steve Busby
Having found another photo of Busby that has the same cap as the mystery Royal and shows the same gap between the front teeth, I think that Cheech nailed it with the Steve Busby identification.

Bob Miller - Oldest living 'Whiz Kid' turns 93
Bob Miller, the older of the two living 1950 National League Champion Philadelphia Phillies "Whiz Kids" turns 93, today, June 16.
Miller pitched all or parts of 10 seasons with the Phillies from 1949 to 1958. Miller, a RHP debuted with 3 relief appearances in September 1949. In 1950, his first full season in the majors, Miller earned a spot in the Phillies starting rotation in Spring Training and he was 8-0 at the all-star break, but he was overlooked for all-star honors. He finished the season at 11-6, with a 3.57 e.r.a. The only other living 1950 Phillies player, LHP - Curt Simmons (17-9 in 1950, but also overlooked for all-star selection) turned 90 less than one month ago (May 19). Curt Simmons - 1949
Curt Simmons is the only survivor of the NL Champion 1950 Philadelphia Phillies team other than Bob Miller. The Phillies uni he is wearing in the photo was the team's uniform in the late 1940s before they went to the now familiar red pinstripes look in 1950. The Phillies wear an alternate look uniform that is worn by Phillies players on certain day games based on the 1947 to 1949 model worn by Simmons above
The hard throwing lefty was a WORKHORSE who pitched just under 3350 innings in his career on his way to a 193-183 record. . |
