Best way to save ACE for the Wildcard game?

With 3 games all playoff spots were settled. My team was set to play in the wildcard game no matter what. So I wanted to rest David Price that was set to pitch the second to last game. Can't put him in reserve or he is lost. Tried to put him at #5, but that scheduled him to pitch the last regular season game. So I tried to take him out of the rotation and left him unclassified. He ended up pitching and is lost for my wildcard matchup.

Is there a setting that I am missing? I should be able to rest my starting pitchers for the playoffs. It would be nice if my reserve pitchers can pitch in a final regular season series?

What is the correct or best way to rest starting pitchers?

You can set individual strategies so for this scenario you can bench player for 3 days and he won't be used.

First thing comes to mind is sub in a rested relief pitcher and put desired wild card starter in bullpen until the end of the season, maybe with no role specified.

Otherwise I'd catch it a good 10-15 games before the end of the season (after an off day sims) and alter the rotation so that he pitches the 4th or 5th (or at least the 3rd to last) game of the season.
