It would seem that OOTPD is spreading its advertising wings a bit. We had better hope they don't spread them inside the game itself. We talked a bit about that possibility in this thread, page 2.
It's coming. Just please have it err on the side of understatement. Tasteful. Discreet. A huge rotating ad billboard above centerfield walls or, even worse, a popup the size of the one in OP during gameplay . . . it could be all over at that point. Heh, I keep harping on this: Always save the last version of OOTPB!

Actually, I think this is probably more about Draft Kings than OOTP. I just saw a similar ad (though much more tasteful) reading MLBTR. My guess is they are approaching baseball-related sites and products as part of a marketing campaign.

Gee, for a minute I thought we might be betting on OOTP games. Start in 1901, let the AI do an inaugural draft of historical players, set up odds who would win the pennant/World Series, let the betting commence and after the season do a rookie draft and do it all over again for 1902, etc..
I guess I better not give Markus any ideas. |

We don’t know what Perfect Team is yet.

Even before this, Perfect Team has had me suspicious. The name makes it sound like one of those insidious P2W collectible modes that have infested (and largely destroyed) many previous sports titles. Like Madden's much-reviled (yet hugely profitable) "Ultimate Team."
Hopefully that's just a mistaken impression. |

Wow. You're right and it led me to think: We are not done with 19 yet. Could it yet take a disgusting turn when a patch, or something embedded in our existing version, activates a certain module?
I rushed to check. When I said above that "I keep harping on this: Always save the last version of OOTPB!" I was thinking of 19. But wait, did I save 18, just in case? Whew. Yes, I still have 18. Just in case.

Heh, I've got the same feeling, like a bunch of young boys telling each other ghost stories around the campfire!

Yeah, this is definitely one of those "cross that bridge when we come to it" sort of deals. Vigilance is wise, but there's no need to get worked up over nothing, especially with a company that has a pretty good track record.

What’s next? Payday loan outfits as the next “sponsors.”

Finally, I see this! I was wondering whether I was being left out for a reason . . .
Actually, I have Adblock Plus and I thought that might be blocking it, but no. Well, look. OOTPD has greatly expanded, as we have seen. The results have been a bigger and better game, which we appreciate. They have to pay for this and game sales are not going to be enough over time. Hence ads on forums. Not huge popups, though; that may have been a momentary mistake. This is fine. Not in the game itself, though. That might be a bit problematic to say the least. Even there, I imagine I could compromise if it were tasteful and discreet, as I said above. It's just that I don't want to have to rely on what Qeltar rightly calls "a pretty good track record." Track records are no guarantees of future decisions and I don't want the game to change in that regard. So, more of this here please, if it pays the bills, but only here:

I hope he is...
And I agree. DraftKings is scum. They make SpeedyCash look like Mother Teresa. Read this article. I should get a thanks from every user on this board for linking it. And a personal thank you letter from Markus for it assuming he didn’t realize what evil bastards with which he is dealing. https://www.nytimes.com/2016/01/06/m...o-suckers.html

For those who aren't going to read the article (I read the first part and skimmed the rest) the most salient part IMO is about how the sites are designed so that long-time veterans running scripts and using other exploits can fleece new players.
New players who are usually brought into the game through.. massive advertising campaigns. I'm not going to stop supporting OOTP over this, but I think it's entirely valid for paying customers to express their views on matters such as this. How else can the company's direction be influenced? Last edited by Qeltar; 05-06-2018 at 12:53 PM. |

Watching EPL games with the incessant flashing billboards; now that is annoying.
