Adjust/Weaken By AB and IP: What do you guys use?
It's somewhat unclear initially but the Online Manual says this references the "selected season" e.g. start up in 1969 or 1920 or such.
What do you guys typically set this at? Do you alter it precisely for the starting year or go with a general guideline? I tend to start my seasons in 1871 going through and thus I set my ABs pretty low (usually 70/30), same for the IP (12/6 taking note of the 4x Value related to the SP). Most players topped out around 150-165 AB so going Default would, potentially neuter most of them, right? Same for the secondary pitchers who'd throw 10-20 IP for the season. Does this impact future Imported Historical Players for the season they are being imported for (e.g. could it hamstring Negro League players coming in who may've had 200-220 AB?) or is it strictly the creation season only? |

You can only set it when you create your league and the league then uses that setting for each year. I play historical 1901-2000 and the default setting is fine for me. If I was going to change it, I would bump up the settings some to make sure players with limited at bats and innings pitched don’t end up leading my league.

I don't typically start historical games prior to 1901, and I usually use settings of 100-35-30-10. Not exactly sure why I go with those specific numbers, other than I tend towards lower numbers because I don't want OOTP weakening/normalizing guys unless they are bit players. I don't find adverse affects from this, although once in awhile you'll get an unexpected standout performer.
Markus added clarity on this subject for me a year ago when he wrote: Quote:
It's also been suggested by experienced players that 1) the batting settings may not apply to pitchers, so - for example - Don Drysdale should be rated to hit pretty well in several of his seasons... (altho I would assume that a pitcher who went 2-4 with a homer and a double would be adjusted downward to a degree), and 2) the ratings can also be bumped "up" (to league avg or replacement level) when necessary. |

Spritze suggested to me on a bug report thread to try
100 30 30 10 to try and get negro league players to come into the game better rated. I haven't called up a year to test out the theory yet. |

I use 200 50 40 10. I started using them forever ago when I noticed that most players Neutralized Stats were adjusted up to a minimum of 200 AB and 40 IP, and since I play with Neutralized Stats, that was what I went with.

Will update further after work. Interesting to see mostly the same with a noticeable exception for Turkey Stearnes, Dave Brown, and slight change to Torriente thus far.
