World Championships

The rosters are too stacked for the World Championships.

Luongo, Crawford, Toews, Gallagher, and Simmonds are the rest.

Well, FHM considers the Worlds a "best on best" tournament for players that aren't currently playing in the playoffs it seems. I'm fine with that, but I suppose a workaround for the future could be to have certain players decline invites for this specific tournament. Not sure how easy that would be to code though, and it could open up some problems.

Oh I understand and I'm sure it's not easy code it, but just hoping for future iterations it could be adjusted for realism.

I hate to compare this to EHM because I understand they are two different games but EHM does this perfectly with players declining the invite.

Yeah, I had a system worked out for this but it was a little too complex for the first version of international play. We'll get it in at some point.

Only North Americans regularly decline World Championships call-ups. When a European refuses to go, it's a major news story with the sports news media stomping the "traitor" for weeks. The system works fine, more or less. I guess you could add a "patriotism" rating for players, and a hardcoded lowered interest for US/Canada in WCs. But it seems like it's a major overkill for a minor problem...

I have had the Canadian roster look similar to that and still lose to the US or Russia so I don't really see an issue with it. Having them decline would be a neat feature however.

It's a bad year for my point of view in general as there are a few Russians not arriving either (Radulov most obviously) - but the point stands - it's mostly a rare thing, caused either by a conflict between the player and a national hockey governing organisation or various personal/health/contract issues. If you look at previous WCs, vast majority of European available players didn't come because they simply weren't needed or there wasn't any space for them left.
