JANUARY 1958 RING
Saturday 26, October 1957 Milan, Lombardia, Italy Giacomo Bozzano 13 0 0 W PTS 8/8 Maurice Mols 13 15 4 Maurice Mols was beaten in what was described as a monotonous 10. BoxRec account of the fight shows it as an 8 rounder? Mols just fought on the defensive the whole time. I posted Bozzano a little bit back recently. Mols had a TBCB3 rating. I tweaked that some and have posted a new file with my tweaked rating included. |

JANUARY 1958 RING
Wednesday 30, October 1957 Luxembourg, Luxembourg Werner Wiegand 34 17 5 W PTS 10/10 Heinz Lemm 4 7 1 Werner Wiegand showed himself to be "way below" subpar in his appearance against Heinz Lemm as he managed a 10 round decision in a dull encounter in Luxembourg. Wiegand I've updated from a rating I'd done again way time ago and have done some updating to. Lemm, I had a rating from Romultiltus. I did some testing of it. My rating comes out with some noticeable changes to control ratings and Chins. overall remains a 0 of course. |

JANUARY 1958 RING
Wednesday 30, October 1957 Luxembourg, Luxembourg Horst Niche 25 4 4 W PTS 8/8 Jempy Bentz 6 5 2 On the same fight card with the Wiegand/ Lemm match, Horst Niche "lambasted" Jempy Bentz around for 8 rounds, but he could not put the local cruiser out. Horst Niche i had a rating done originally by David Meyers. I've added a Rocco version with some tweaks to it for you. Jempy Bentz was done by Romultiltus originally as heavyweight included in the attached file. But records I could find in Ring magazines seem to indicate he started out as a middleweight which is what BoxRec lists him as but then he transititioned to LWH. So I've redone and included MW and LHW ratings with how his record splits accordingly. |

January 1958
The next couple posts i'm going to take some time to post some of a good number of miscellaneous fighters that I've rated in conjunction with the ones I've posted for the January 1958 Ring project. These are guys that I came across either they fought some of the January fighters or other fighters of these other fighters. If that makes any sense. Anyway here and next are 6 of those. Hope you enjoy. Will work on some more before I get back to the Jan 58 Ring project. I'm spending some more time play testing these guys before posting than what I'd initially done.
Simon Ayankin 10 13 2 5 KOs 2 KOs From Cameroon, migrated to Europe and eventually late in his career won and held the Belgium LHW title. Michel Aubignat 25 20 6 7 KOs 6 KOs French Middleweight through majority of his career in the early/mid 50's but then move up to Heavyweight actually late in career. Fought Maurice Mols for the French Heavyweight Title late 50's being stopped by Mols in the 12th round of the 15 scheduled. Aubignat did not fight again until 2 years after that fight, to battle Mols again this time loosing a 10 round decision. Karl Ameisbichler 15 14 3 11 KOs 8 KOs Austrian light heavy, won the Austrian LHW Title later to loose it and then loose two more tries to regain it. |

Three more extras. Probably last post I can get out today.
Malcolm Affleck 9 11 2 1 KOs 4 KOs English light heavyweight really fought not much of mention his whole career mostly around Epsom Baths, Epsom. Robert Allentin 1 7 1 1 KOs 2 KOs From France. LHW Was Erich Schoppner's 6th career opponent. Mario Altana 28 4 0 11 KOs 4 KOs Italian LHW with really nice looking record but all in Italy and against low end local opponents some who we've seen in past posts and some others have rated. One of these guys that can tend to get over rated. |

Martino Baggiani
2 0 0 1 KOs 0 KOs A heavyweight from Italy boxed Horst Herold in Nov 1962. It was Baggiani's 2nd and last fight. Gerd Englbrecht 3 11 1 2 KOs 8 KOs Gerd Englbrecht Baggiani's 1st opponent was Gerd Englbrecht, also known as Danny Brecht, a German heavyweight of the early/mid 60's. I'd actually introduced Englbrecht a number of years ago, and rediscovered him in my DB when working on Baggiani. |

Robert Bedrnik
3 3 0 1 KOs 2 KOs Austrian HW fought Ossi Buettner and Werner Wiegand. He also fought Andre Moumouloff twice to start his short career defeating Andre twice. Andre Moumouloff - LHW 6 8 2 6 KOs 6 KOs Moumouloff fought Herbert Waniek three times in his career with 1 win 1 draw and 1 loss. Waniek was rated by Bear and Romultiltus. I'm playing around with his rating some and will post what I come up with. Andre who BoxRec says was born in Greece per BoxRec, BoxRec says his nationality is Bulgaria. A couple Ring Magazine accounts i found, one refers to Andre as "the Greek" while another as "the ancient Roumanian". Richard Banaszak -LHW 1 7 1 0 KOs 3 KOs French LHW looked at when reviewing Dante Lepercq who was opponent of some of my previous January 1958 postings. January 1958 Extra Fighters
Couple Australians...
Doug Beer - LHW 7 5 0 4 KOs 5 KOs Fought and lost to Steve Raduly for the Australian HW Title in April 1960. Beer then was KO'd by Barry Butler in his next fight trying to Win the New South Wales LHW Title. Steve Raduly - HW 10 3 0 8 KOs 3 KOs In three consecutive fights in Jan, Feb and the first day in April 1960, Raduly first KO'd Steve Zoranich for the Australian HW Title, then was KO'd by Clive Stewart trying to win a dual title for the LHW Title then in the 3rd fight KO'd Doug Beer defending his HW Title. In going through some of these LHW/HW Australian fighters they seem to do quite a bit of jumping back and forth in the two divisions. Hard to judge if you rate them HW or LHW. |

Johnny Bourke - LHW
2 11 1 0 KOs 5 KOs This guy BoxRec has him as a heavyweight. You could make an argument for that in the last bouts of his short career as he'd put on some weight. I've rated as LHW with his fight weight down there in that division and in the Jan 3 1958 edition of Boxing News, they list him in "rated" LHW British fighters. Gabriel Borisi LHW 0 1 0 0 KOs 1 KOs An opponent of Ernie Hughes rated earlier. Peter Bothe - LHW 10 2 0 8 KOs 2 KOs Light Heavy from Australia, born in Austria. Won his first 10 bouts then was KO'd in his last two by Ernie Hughes and Harry Castle. Ahmed Boulgroune - LHW 20 12 2 10 KOs 3 KOs Decent record light heavy out of France, born in Algeria. Started out 15-2 then his opponents stepped up in quality and finished 5-10. |

Here's 3 more Australians
Zoli Brynner - LHW 4 5 0 1 KOs 3 KOs Came across Brynner working on Karl Machain. BoxRec lists him as HW but I rated as LHW based on fight weights and opponents. Stan Brown -HW 0 2 0 0 KOs 1 KOs First of his two fights was against Ray Borge. Snowy Boyd - MW 19 20 2 9 KOs 11 KOs Late in his career fought Karl Machain when he'd moved up to fighting more LHW level fighters. I only rated him as a MW. |

Karl Heinz Bucher - Germany-MW
W22(KO 11) L12(KO 2) D9 BoxRec lists real name as Buecher. Defeated Leo Starch a couple times. Bucher finished his career 1-5-1 during which he lost to Seen Jansen, Horst Niche, Erwin Hack and Gilbert Chapron. Edmond Bulcourt - France - HW W0 / L1(KO 1) / D0 Lost to Werner Wiegand in Jan 1950 by 1st round KO. Barry Butler - Australia - LHW W13(KO 8) / L13(KO 3) / D0 TITLES: Australian New South Wales LHW Defeated Doug Beer for that title. Lost it in 2 months to Reg Hayes. Lost to Clive Stewart in July 1962 in a fight for the Australian LHW title and in his last fight lost another try for the NSW LHW to Roy Thurgar. Doudi Caea - New Caledonia - LHW
W4(KO 0) / L3(KO 0) / D2 Rating I had originally from Chris Mund. I tweeked it just a bit. He fought a win a loss and a draw with George Mahoni and won a 12 round decision over Sandy Assogna as his major accomplishments. Interesting in that BoxRec shows all his fights going the distance in a couple of 10 and the rest 12 round bouts! Auguste Canler - France - LHW W1(KO 1) / L6(KO 1) / D0 Fighting the likes of Andre Cottyn, Francois Kania, Paul Roux and Joseph Landesheere whom we've seen introduced in TB. Des Casey - Australia - HW W1(KO 1) / L2(KO 1) / D0 Lost on points to Ernie "Bull" Hughes and TKO to Cec Meredith before stopping Ray Mannaway in his 3rd and final fight. Harry Castle - Australia - LHW W22(KO 14) / L6(KO 3) / D1 Started 22-3, then lost 3 of of last 5 bouts starting with a 10 round decision loss to Canadian MW George Ross which was Ross' last career fight. Castle followed that with a 12 round draw with Graham Lamont and a 9th round KO of Peter Bothe but then lost a 12 round decision to Ernie Hughes and finished out getting KO'd in the 2nd by Francois Anewy. |

Barry Chalker - Australia - MW/LHW
Career Record: W6(KO 3) / L9(KO 6) / D0 Unknown Information has been left blank. DOB has been estimated. I found in my DB a file for Chalker from way back when that was done by Lee Skye. It was a HW rating, and the biography included noted his record as W1 L4. I did not use any of that rating done by Lee so if you have that file, this new one is not based at all on that, but wanted to mention of Lee's original rating. Barry did end his career as noted in BoxRec with two fights against Ernie Hughes in April and June 1957. This after his last shown fight being in Dec. 1955. Barrry beat Ernie in the first fight by 12 round decision. They then rematched in June for a fight billed as the Queensland State Heavyweight Title. Both fighters really LHW's. Barry, by BoxRec listed fight weights I'd put him in as a Middleweight through his first 5 fights in 1950,fighting twice in January, and three times in February compiling a 3-2 record with all 5 results being by KO!So the MW rating.I don't take the difference in his KO's as a MW then none as a LHW as an indicator in some big change in his punching prowess. I think it was just his first opponents as a MW either they went down with little effort vs his LHW opponents. He bulked up to 176 in October that year to fight and stayed generally in the LHW weight division. As a LHW rated, his record came in at W3(KO 0) / L7(KO 4)/ D0. His three decision wins all went the distance, 6, 12 and 12 rounds. MW Record: W3(KO 3) / L2(KO 2) / D0 LHW Record: W3(KO 0) / L7(KO 4) / D0 |

Roger Francis Coeuret - France - HW
Career Record: W17(KO 11) / L10(KO 8) / D1 Coeuret's career started out 11-0-1 then in March 1954 he was stopped in the 5th round by Ilda Warusfel to start the downward path of 6-10-0 the rest of the way. He faced up with losses in that stretch beside Warusfel, to Franco Cavicchi, Johnny Williams, Michael Aubignat, Max Brianto and Bruno Scarabellin. March 1958 Ring account of Coeuret's last bout against Dante Lepercq notes he was apparently knocking Lepercq around at will but then Coeuret was disqualified for a low blow in the 6th. |

Marcel Collet - France - LHW
Career Record: W3(KO 1) / L5(KO 3) / D0 Collet showed up on the radar having fought Marcel Limage, Roger Francis Coeuret and Simon Ayankin from 1951-53, all fighters visited in TB. After the May 1953 fight with Ayankin, Collet does not show up again till Jan 1958 in a fight listed with a Jean Van Kerschaver. The April 1958 brief account of this fight in Ring mentions it as a "middle six" bout.Kerschaver is listed as a Middleweight in BoxRec. Jacques Collette - Belgium - LHW Career Record: W0(KO 0) / L2(KO 1) / D0 Collette was disqualified in 6th round against Jempy Bentz in March 1959 then was stopped in the 2nd round by Bernard Quellier in June. |

Gordon Corbett - England - LHW
Career Record: W15(KO 6) / L9(KO 5) / D1 Lost consecutive fights to Stan Cullis via 6 round decision in Dec 1958 and January 1959.From accounts of his fights in Boxing News through his career, Corbett showed having problems in many fights with eye cuts and injuries affecting outcomes of his fights. In his last career fight, Corbett retired himself after the 6th round against Ted Buck having again suffering a cut eyebrow.Looked for but did not find some account of his decision possibly to retire after this due in part to the repeated cut eyes. Gordon was a brother of Lightweight/Welterweight Ray Corbett. |
