PAT KILLEN - HW (1883-1891) Overall Rating = 7 ***
Hometown - St. Paul, Minnesota, USA 34(31)-2-2 Northwest Heavyweight Champion Killen KO'd Patsy Cardiff, Duncan McDonald and Mervine Thompson. He drew with Cardiff (ten rounds) and lost on a DQ to Thompson. His only other loss was a KO to Joe McAuliffe near the end of his career when he traveled to San Francisco. He took the Northwest Heavyweight title in Chicago with a KO over Bob Ferguson on October 11, 1891. Killen died ten days after this bout; due to injuries suffered in the bout or other circumnstances, I do not know. *** I tested him against real opponents that he faced as well as similarly situated heavyweights of the era (3/4/5 ratings) and he feasts on them although not as much as his record would indicate that he should have. This is because I made him quite rough (low CF, no defense, et cetera) so that he would be beaten by the more polished Heavies of the day. As an example, Sullivan has little trouble with him. Anyone that is more in tune with the era and has a better take on him is more than welcome to offer criticism.

George Chuvalo's Opponents
On March 3rd, 1957, Chuvalo landed himself another knockout with a 3rd rounder against Walter Hafer at the Maple Leaf Gardens.
Walter Hafer USA Rating 1 Heavyweight 1943-57 19 wins / 24 losses / 1 draw / 11 KO Hometown: Mayfield, KY Birthplace: Washington D.C. Manager: Walt Winters Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto Walter started out 10-0-1,7KO against the usual array of mostly local club fighters like himself, though he did win a 4 round decision over Silent Joe Hill and then KO'd Johnny Haynes after dropping Hill 3 times in the 4th round of fight a week after defeating Hill. After that good start though, Walter's record came in at only 9-24-0,4KO the rest of the way. During that time though, Walter fought quite a few opponents who we've seen in the game and most fights were against guys who at least exhibited an amount of ring experience. Almost all those fights though, he lost. He managed 10 round decisions over Tiger Jack Fox, Phil Muscato and Johnny Shkor and a 9th round TKO victory over Jo Weidin. In that fight, Hafer was down twice and behind on points but Weidin suffered an eye cut which "bled profusely", according to The Ring. The losses were numerous including to Freddie Schott, Johnny Haynes, Abel Cestac, Phil Muscato twice, Bernie Reynolds twice, Tommy Gomez, Olle Tandberg, Lee Oma, Ezzard Charles, Jo Weidin, Roland LaStarza, Bob Baker, Embrell Davidson, Clarence Henry, Earl Walls, Eddie Machen and finally in Hafer's last career fight, George Chuvalo KO's him in the 3rd. |

George Chuvalo's Opponents
A 3rd straight fight at the Maple Leaf Gardens on March 25th, 1957 landed Chuvalo a 3rd straight knockout victory, this one a 1st round stoppage of Moses Graham.
Moses Graham USA Rating 1 Heavyweight 1955-58 4 wins / 6 losses / 0 draws / 1 KO Hometown: Buffalo, NY Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto Graham fought and lost twice to Mike DeJohn, the first time a 6 round decision, the 2nd time by 1st round TKO after Graham was knocked down 3 times forcing an automatic stoppage. A month after the 2nd DeJOhn loss, Graham lost a 6 round decision to Billyh Hunter and then 2 months later George Chuvalo KO'd Graham in the 1st round. A couple of wins against no name opponents ended Graham's career in early 1958. |

George Chuvalo's Opponents
ON April 22nd, 1957, in Toronto, Chuvalo stopped Emil Brtko at the 1:52 mark of the 2nd round for a TKO victory. We first met Brtko during our review of Tunney Hunsaker's career.
ON June 6th, 1957 Chuvalo picked himself up another pretty easy victory with a 4th round KO over Joe Olson in Ft. Williams, Ontario. It was Olson's only appearance in the professional ring. Joe Olson Rating 1 USA Heavyweight 1957 0 wins / 1 loss / 0 draws / 0 KO Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto Olson's only career bout was a 4th round knockout loss to George Chuvalo in Ft. William, Ontario, Canada in June 1957. |

George Chuvalo's Opponents
After the easy wins over the likes of Olson, Brtko, Hafer, Russell, etc. over the past months, Chuvalo started getting tougher competition lined up to meet him in the boxing ring. On September 9th, 1957 Chuvalo climbed into the ring at the Maple Leaf Gardens against veteran heavyweight Bob Baker. Chuvalo's still raw abilities apparently showed through some as he lost an 8 round unanimous decision.
Chuvalo then took off from the ring unitl January 27th, 1958 when he fought Cuban Julio Mederos at the Maple Leaf Garden. Mederos was knocked down twice in 2nd round on the way to a 10 round UD victory for Chuvalo. The file I've attached is one I think was original in the game. I've added some bio info on Mederos is you'd like it. |

George Chuvalo's Opponents
Over the next 3-1/2 years Chuvalo fought numerous opponents whom are already in the game originally or have been rateded in. He wins and looses the Canadian HW Title twice over during this period. During this time he wins fights over Howard King, James J. Parker, Frankie Daniels, Yvon Durelle, bob Ceroux, Alex Miteff and Willie Besmanoff. Chuvalo also fought a 10 round draw with Miteff. He lost fights againstPat McMurtry, Pete Rademacher, bob Cleroux twice, and in October after having lost a 12 round decison and the Canadian HW title to Cleroux in August 1961, Chuvalo is disqualified in the 5th round against Joe Erskine.
After that disqualification against Erskine, Chuvalo is absent from the ring for a year and a half until finally coming back in March 1963 against Reco Brooks knocking out Brooks in the 2nd round. I had in my data base a file for Brooks that was created by Billy Dennis. Looking at Reco's record though with the 8 year period he did not fight between the 50's and 70's he was active I decided to create two different files for Brooks starting with Dennis' original file and modifying it for each period. Reco Brooks USA Rating 1 Heavyweight 1955-63 5 wins / 11 losses / 1 draw / 0 KO Hometown: Chicago, ILL. Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto (modified from a combined career rating done by Billy Dennis). This rating of Brooks covers the first of two destinct parts of his career from 1955 thru 1963. During this time losses to Sonny Ray, Wayne Womochil and Jesse Bowdry in 1955-56 and then finally a 2nd round KO loss to George Chuvalo in March 1963 were the most noteworthy fights. His loss to Bowdry was the only other stoppage besides to Chuvalo, Brooks suffered. After the KO to Chuvalo, Brooks then left the boxing ring for 8-1/2 years until undertaking a comeback in late 1971. Reco Brooks USA Rating 1 Heavyweight 1971-75 4 wins / 10 losses / 1 draw / 1 KO Hometown: Chicago, Ill. Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto (modified from a combined career rating done by Billy Dennis). After an absence of 8-1/2 years from the ring, Reco Brooks decided to start up again his boxing career in November and December 1971 in Phoenix, Arizona. Brooks started out his comeback in a much more successful fashion then his early career had gone, winning a 1st round KO and a 10 round decision over a couple local punching bags. Then in January 1972 in Denver, Colorado he won a 10 round SD over Ron STander who was 21-0-1 at the time. BoxRec notes here that this was purprtedly a 12th straight win for Brooks, but there's no record of wins other then the 3 noted. Next up in February after the Stander fight, Brooks wins a 4th straight fight according to BoxRec, a 10 round decision over Charlie Hall. You'll note Hall rated in the game was a prime target for fighters to fatten up their records. In April 1972 Brooks then fought a 10 round no contest against a Vic Scott. From then on thru March 1975, Brooks fought a array of some very noteworthy fighters from the early 70's. During this time he fought 11 times, all against guys we've seen rated into the game. He lost all but one of these fights, the one he didn't loose was a 12 round draw with Chuck Olivera in July 1972 for what was billed as the Arizona State Heavyweight Title. The 10 losses included 7 knockouts, not TKO's. The losses were to Jimmy Ellis twice, Jack O'Halloran, Rodney Bobick, Duane Bobick, Giuseppe Ros, Lorenzo Zanon, Bernd August, Leroy Jones and finally a 1st round KO by Ken NOrton sent Brooks back into retirement, this time for good. |

George Chuvalo's Opponents
After disposing of Reco Brooks in 2 rounds, Chuvalo next fought James Wakefield on April 22nd, 1963 in Windsor, Ontario, knocking out Wakefield in the 6th round.
James Wakefield USA Rating 1 Heavyweight 1959-63 4 wins / 2 losses / 0 draws / 0 KO Hometown: Louisville, KY Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto Oct 1959 Wakefield wins a 4 round decision over Quinn Bynum. In February and April 1960, he wins a 4, 6 and 10 round decisions over Terrell Pruitt, Pruitt and Frank Williams. Wakefield then dissappears from the ring until October 1961 when he's KO'd in 3 by Leroy Roker. Another year and half absence is then broken with an April 1963 matchup against George Chuvalo. Chuvalo knocks out Wakefield in the 6th round and thats it for good for Wakefield's career. |

George Chuvalo's Opponents
A week after knocking out Wakefield, Chuvalo KO's in the 4th, Chico Gardner in Chuvalo's first fight in Europe at the National Sporting Club in London, England.
Chico Gardner USA RAting 1 Heavyweight 1960-63 3 wins / 16 losses / 2 draws / 2 KO Hometown: Chicago, Ill. Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto Gardner fought regularly his entire career in Chicago and around Minnesota and some in Nebraska up through 1963. A 4 round draw with Terrell Pruitt was his most successful fight. He lost bouts with Sonny Banks, Floyd Joyner, and Bill Nielsen. In April 1963 he travelled for the first and only time in his career outside the upper midwest, all the way to London, England to fight George Chuvalo! Chuvalo knocks out Gardner in the 4th round. How does someone who's never fought outside of midwest compiling only a 3-11-2 record up till then end up in England fighting one of the moderate heavyweight contenders of the world?? Gardner comes back home to St. Paul actually in Minnesota and looses one more time in December 1963. Gardner fights 3 more times, in December 1966 he's outpointed in 8 by Aaron Eastling, in February 1974 he drops a 4 round decision to Fred Askew and then in April 1978 he climbs into the ring one last time and drops an 8 round decision to a Robert Echols. |

George Chuvalo's Opponents
Three weeks after the quick trip to London, we find Chuvalo back in North America in Battle Creek, MI, on May 18th 1963 to take on Lloyd Washington. Chuvalo KO's Washington in the 2nd round.
Lloyd Washington USA Rating 1 Heavyweight 1960-67 2 wins / 11 losses / 0 draws / 0 KO Hometown: Buffalo, NY Manager: Bernie Blacher Rating by: Rocco Del Sesto AFter getting knocked out in your first 4 fights, you'd wonder why Lloyd kept climbing back in the ring? He was KO'd in 1 by Sonny Banks in his first career fight, then Lee Batts KO'd him in 6, Rudy Davis stopped Lloyd in the 2nd and then in May 1963 George Chuvalo KO'd Lloyd in the 2nd round. Finally in his next 2 fights Washington was able to last the distance, but still lost both fights, both of them to Dick Wipperman, dropping an 8 and a 6 round decision. Finally in October 1963 Washington won his first fight, a 4 round decision over Jim O'Connell. After a 5 round loss to Mac Harrison, he then won a 4 round decision over Vic Brown in February 1964. That turned out to be his last career win as he lost fights to Billy Joiner, Mac Harrison, Joe Byrd and Frank Bullard. IN October 1967 after having not fought for almost a year and a half, Washington entered the ring one last time against Jack Rodgers who sported a 23-0-1 record at the time. Rodgers was first a winner on a foul, but that was overuled by the Boxing Commission and the fight was declared a no contest. |

Great work, I love the whole idea of following a guys career. It's a great way to get some total unknowns in the game, and you do a awesome job with the bios.
