is that from your OS or the game?

stab in the dark, if the OS: when HD start to fail, a file copy, or download, can look as if it is complete, but it's actually still writing from RAM in the background in a very slow way (pio mode). if it isn't over 30k hours of use, it likely is NOT this problem. the system will not be able to use that file correctly while it finishes writing the file at 2mb/s or likely even a slower speed. (personal experience, too)

d/l crystal diskinfo if curious. it will tell you if any drives have a health problem. it's free, if not freeware. great for keeping tabs on SSD, too.

I am having trouble with the game sounds. I don't have the crack of the bat or strike 3 umpire sounds. I also have to turn my speakers very high to hear the in game sounds. I had perfect sounds until this latest patch. Maybe a setting? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks

You can now set the amount that major-league clubs pay for players from unaffiliated minors. That amount is set in the rules section of the minor league. When historical minors became available in OOTP 17, it was impossible to buy players from unaffiliated minors. Then, for a brief time between patches, it was possible to buy players, but the major-league clubs didn't pay anything. Now they pay, and the amount that they pay is set at the minor-league level.

I'm very glad to see this post this morning. I'm brand new to OOTP 17 (just started playing the Mac OSX version yesterday).

What can I say? It's the greatest baseball game I'ver played and maybe the finest sports sim ever (this coming from a Front Page Sports Football vet)?

The only thing that was breaking my heart was the random in game crashes (and I would completely lose my game progress even when I was saving it periodically through the game)...enough that I was about to go back to my old RBI Baseball games.

So yes, if the game stops crashing and is stable, I'm happy as a clam!!! I'm still downloading the patch as I type this.

I was having the same problem. I've been turning off my internet connection and my virus protection while I play. Hasn't happened since.

Do you play on Mac or PC?

Yeah, that was my first thought too yesterday so I put my Mac into Airplane mode and it still crashed. Frustrating because it happened right in the middle of my Bo Jackson led '89 Royals beating the Blue Jays 5-1 in the 8th Inning and when I restarted the game...wouldn't you know it, the Blue Jays whooped us like 11-2 or something.

I haven't played it long enough to say but the crashes only seemed to occur (as the developer noted) when games are played in 3D View.

I downloaded the patch for Mac this morning...everything seems okay so far. I am still downloading the patch for my Windows PC as I type this (still ~15 minutes left...).

Otherwise, this is my favorite sports game of all time (other than Tecmo Super Bowl for the NES)...

I haven't had that issue thankfully. Just long download times (for PC...Mac was pretty quick).

Someone else mentioned they were having sound issues after the patch...so far everything's okay for me on that front as well.

Yes, I am. It must be everyone who took the day off work and is simming away while watching baseball.

I had no trouble with the download, which took perhaps 30 seconds. However, I continue to have trouble with the installer, as I have with all the OOTP 17 releases. The installation took about half an hour to complete, and it totally locked up my PC (running Windows 7) to the point that I couldn't even bring up Explorer or Task Manager even with everything else closed. This didn't happen with v16 -- did something change, or is my system just that crappy?

A funny thing regarding the WV Black Bears: they're a second-year team, and OOTP 16 had the right logos IIRC.
