Brand new player with two basic questions

Hi everyone.

Im a total baseball nut, and im ashamed to say ive never even heard of this game until a couple days ago.. Ive played Football Manager (european soccer manager sim) off and on for years so im familiar with the genre to some extent. I did try searching the forums but didnt seem to find what i needed.

#1 easier question first. Is it possible to start a new game today, (1/12/14) with todays actual 40 man rosters, or do you have to start with the 40 man rosters from when the game was released.

#2 Im in a VERY intense, competitive and expensive Dynasty fantasy league, (keepers must be drafted as prospects) and was wondering if i can create a custom 12 team league that mirrors our league once drafted to to see how it sims out? obviously this would need to be in commisioner mode...

Anywho, looks like an awesome community here, and excited to get started. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1) Yes, kind of. It will be a lot of work. See 2nd half of answer below.Rosters will be a lot of work to get all of the moves made.

2) Yes, you can start a fictional league. Create your teams, with names andcities. Then import players one at a time.

You can also use the MLB quickstart. It will start opening day of lastseason. You can then move players to the teams you want them on.

Then edit team names and locations, including deleting teams. Deleted teamswill release their FA to the FA pool. Free agents can be deleted if there aretoo many. One at a time or in bulk.

If you want to start in the 2014 season you will have to do a little morework. Turn off injuries, development, AI transactions and aging (if you want).Then sim to 2014. This will not work out perfectly because 2013 will be basedon the game engine not real life but with these options off you have kind offrozen player talent. My only concern would be aging. Even with aging you cango into a player’s edit screen and change their ratings more to your liking.
