Independence Day!

We are in San Francisco to play 4 games in 3 days over the weekend. They were just swept in 3 games here by Seattle and have lost 7 in a row. We are 9-1 so far against them this season and swept them in 3 games the first time we were in Candlestick Park, the opening series of the season, April 8-10. The Seals are 12th (last) in scoring in the PCL with 3.65 runs per game (Portland is #3 with 4.66). They are 8th in fewest runs allowed with 4.58 per game (Portland is #1 with 3.24). We have allowed over 50 runs fewer than anyone else. Scoring is way up this year in the PCL (NL, too). We are the only team with an ERA under 3.50 and ours is 2.79. The Seals finished 2nd to us in both Year I and Year II. They won 91 games last year, but have the worst record in Baseball right now.

Now you see, here's where you went wrong. By inciting the baseball sim gods' spiteful wrath they bestowed poor stuff and static movement upon dearest Gaspar.

I did the same - won 21-2 and expressed happiness. Lost five games on the bounce.

All jokes aside, you're at a .675 at the halfway point in the season. If Flores isn't an All-Star after starring on a team with those numbers, there's no justice in this world.

Yep, we are at .675....

Most people would be happy about that, wouldn't they?
But me, it just makes me want to ditch the whole thing and start over....

If we had spent years struggling and then busted through with this great team, it would be cool as can be....
But we won 95 games in our first season after taking over a team that lost 95 games....
Won 100+ games the next year and on our way to 110 wins this year....

And this team is very young and will be very good for years....

Plus, there are other decisions I made in creating this League that I regret....

Scouts and big minor league systems are the main thing....

Sooooo.....

I am rebooting with a new concept.....

Sorry....

Hahahaha. Understandable though. Westheim seems to have gotten the balance righ t - I wonder quite frequently how he's gone so long and each season still feels so... hard. You know, unless there are good years, but there's always a downturn after those.

I am - as always - sad to see this one go. I am also surprised to be held up as a positive example which rarely happens to me. I tell you, there are boons to being the third- or fourth-worst OOTP player in history.

I know exactly what keeps the Coons from taking off into the stratosphere on a consistent basis. Rapid, ruthless roster reboots keep great teams great. Me however I clung onto Mark Roberts, Rafael Gomez, Abel Mora, and the rest of the bunch, and rode them right into the abyss. And, well, Matt Nunley has been the third baseman since before fire was first invented with decent-to-good results, but oh how high the ceiling would have been at third base in the last almost 20 years...

I remember Orcin's great tales and how he would win a pennant or come up just short, and then traded two stars for elite prospects that kept the whole machine running. Rapid, ruthless roster reboots. It tore my heart out. I can't do it. Saito, Toner, Brownie, Cookie, Hall, Reece, and countless others could have been traded for great benefits while they were still productive. All retired either as lame duck Coons or left as old free agents with no compensation attached.

So my recommendation to Questdog would be to play dumb and emotional and make stupid moves or no moves at all! Ask yourself what I would do, and we should have a perennial loser in no time!

Also, no trades before July of the first season after taking over a terrible team.

I like this setup, so I am going to reuse it, but fast forward 50 or so years into the future. It kinda bothered me that we relocated two of the stalwart franchises of the PCL to make 6 team divisions. So some time in the 50 years, the Majors have expanded by 8 more teams to allow us to add back in the Sacramento Solons and Hollywood Stars and have 8 team divisions.

Toronto and Montreal will be added to the NL East.
Atlanta and Miami to the NL West (They are both west of any team in the East and west of Pittsburgh, too).
San Antonio and Salt Lake City to the PCL East.
Salt Lake City was chosen over maybe more attractive MLB cities because it was a member of the PCL from 1915-1925. It was an ancestor of the PCL San Diego Padres.

I get it as to why your doing a reset, but I enjoyed it and am sad to see it go. Will look forward to the next iteration as I’m an old PCL guy as well.
