Look What I Found
This guy was one of the International Free Agents this past off-season. The best line that popped into my head was the manager from the movie "Major League" saying, "Look at this f_____ guy!"
I signed him to a 10-year contract at an average pf $28.6 million at a time when my starting SS left my team because I wasn't willing to pay him the $45M per year he wanted. I figure it will be a safe contract. If he AVG drops below .300 and Home Runs drop below 40, it's probably time to get rid of him, lol. |

He looks good but don't be surprised if he drops off drastically after year one or two, being 30 years old already.

10 year contract at 30 years old? Yikes! Good luck with that one.

that contract is worse than the Brooklyn Nets trading for Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett in exchange for 4 unprotected first rounders.

I'm sure this will end well.........
Shouldn't you be managing the Yankees if you're throwing that much cash around? |

Well, as I said, in this world, 31 year-old players are asking for 8 year contracts at $35M-40M per year, so I think I got a good deal. This year, he is ranked 14th highest-paid player, with the top player being 34 years old making $47.5M.

(psssst... turn the aging curve from 1 to 0.20 if you don't want a bench player making 28m in three years)
Also - why are his potentials 0?

How did years 2-10 go? I'm interested in finding out. From what I've seen, after about age 32 players drop drastically. |

I mean if we apply "real world" $/WAR calculations at about 1 WAR for 6.5m... he's been worth approx 23 WAR over 3 seasons, or roughly 149.5m.

I don't think anyone expected him to collapse in the first couple of years. It is the back half of his contract where it is more likely that you'll wish you signed him to a shorter deal.

Here’s the latest update on Our Subject. This is the first year he suffered any injury – he missed about 4 weeks with an oblique strain, hence his drop in some numbers.
.357 AVG (1st in MLB), 27 HR, 72 RBI, 36 SB (4th in MLB).427 OBP (1st in MLB), 1.014 OPS (4th in MLB), 7.4 WAR (5th in MLB) Now I DID tweak some players as well as overall game strategy to steal more bases, which explains his sudden jump in SB, but I’m at a loss for the bump in AVG. This is .029 higher than he’s had in any of his first three years. |
