Day 5 - Schedule
We face off against Team USA - West today, this game should be interesting as we face solid young pitcher, and I am still not sure who we are throwing. We haven't played West yet but either way it is a must win game for us.
There is a full docket of games on tap for today. With every team having just 3 more games to go, every game keeps getting bigger. Group A: Team USA - DMV takes on Team USA - West in a game that is a must win for both teams. If West falls to 0-4 they are out and if DMV loses their road to Round 2 means winning out. Team USA - East takes on the undefeated Team USA - New England. New England wins this game the group is there to lose, but Team East isn't ready to allow that happen. With both teams #4 pitchers on the hill anything is possible. Group B: Team Dutch-Australia takes on Team Canada/Europe in a must win game for both teams. With the leaders of the group undefeated any L is a big on. Canada has an outside shot of making the wild card if they can win today. In the game everyone has been waiting for Team Puerto Rico takes on Team Dominican Republic in the powerhouse game of the tourney. Both teams are undefeated and want to stay that way, but only one can. Who will it be? Group C: Team Central America/Mexico takes on Team South America in the battle for last. Both of these teams want to get their first W and try to keep any shot they have open. This is their last chance even if they are playing for pride, its still a big game. Team Cuba takes on Team Asia in a game of revenge. Team Asia is shocked they lost to Cuba earlier and are out to prove that was a fluke, while team Cuba wants to remain undefeated to show the world they are real. Should be a fun game day of games...

Day 5 - Results
This is a must win for us if we want to have any hope to sneak in to Round 2. I feel like we could do that, but we will need some magic... And some of that magic means our #5 hitter, Leslie Barnes, needs to come through. He is 0-7 so far and without him we won't score enough to win... I decided ot go with a rookie Andrew Clark on the hill. He has solid ratings, better than my second choice, and I don't feel like Gabino is quite ready...
CF Walt Hutchins C Will Lewis (L) RF Mark Hayes (L) 1B Jimmy Moore (L) DH Leslie Barnes (S) LF Ramiro Herrera (L) 2B Jon Fleming (S) 3B Dragon Karadzic SS Alonso Sandoval The pressure is on... but not just on us, on really any team with 2 or more losses... win or go home is where we are now. I just have to tell my frustrations... the first 2-innings ended with a runner on third and one-out, and the next to batters going down swinging... painful... Well the frustrations continued as the West scored 1 run in the first 3-innings and then 2 in the 4th to take a big 5-1 lead... and that is when I started to count us out. Then we scored 2 in the 5th, thanks to a Mark Hayes 2-run single following a walk to Will Lewis to load the bases... Then two innings later with Mark Hayes was at it again. West went with the lefty/lefty match-up and Hayes greeted Kevin Gordan with a huge 3-run HR, giving Team DelMarVa the lead. And the bullpen did their job allowing just 2 base runners over the final 3 innings... Wow we are still alive. Andrew Clark: 3.0 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 2 K Henry Burns (1-0): 3.1 IP, 5 H, R, K Bernard McCormick: 1.2 IP, BB John O'Cawley (SV 2): 1.0 IP Walt Hutchins: 2-4, 2 R Will Lewis: 2-4, R Mark Hayes: 2-5, HR (3), R, 5 RBI Jon Fleming: 2-4, 3B, RBI H: 11, LOB: 3 And our ace is rested for Day 6... phew. Group A: Team USA - DelMarVa fought all day down by 5, but able to pull of the 1-run victory thanks to some late inning heroics and lock down bullpen. Team USA - New England remains unbeaten as they show off their power cracking 3-HR's in a tight fought game. Group B: Team Dominican Republic showed their might winning the game of the tourney so far thanks to an early burst and solid pitching. Team South America took home their first win in a hard fought extra-inning battle, in a game that wasn't close till the end. Group C: Team Canada took care of business and remains alive by the hair on their chin thanks to what might have the pitching performance of the tourney so far. Team Asia got revenge and put themselves right back in the thick of things with an extra inning thriller.

Day 6 - Schedule
We just beat Team USA West in a thriller and now here we go again... We face off against Chadds Ford starter John Robertson and I will be countering with our Ace Gabino. Still a must win we can't lose more than 2 games so we still need to win out... 2 more to go!
Group A: Team USA - West has been eliminated from contention, but now they will play the role of the spoiler. Losing a heart breaker yesterday to Team USA - DelMarVa they face off with them again this time out for blood. For Team USA - East to have a chance at round two they have to win, they have to take down the undefeated Team USA - New England. If New England wins they win Group A. Talk about big games for everyone in Group A. Group B: After a huge win yesterday Team Dominican Republic takes on Team South America who won staving off an no win tourney. A Team Dominican win puts them in the drivers seat for Group B, a loss keeps Team South America alive. Team Puerto Rico has to win to set-up up a huge Day 7, but to do that they will need to beat Team Central America an eliminated team who has yet to win. Team Central America doesn't want to go home winless and will send one of their top pitches to shut down Team Puerto Rico. Is it possible? Group C: Same ole tune here, Team Canada needs a W, and Team Cuba wants the W. Can the fairy tale season continue for Team Cuba? Can they win again? This game is bigger for them as they are tied for the Group lead with only 2 games left. Team Asia won a huge game yesterday, but they have to focus on today's game even more so. A loss to the winless Team Dutch/Australia would be painful to bare, but the pressure is on and Team Dutch Australia doesn't want to go home winless! As we close in on the end of Round 1 every game gets bigger and bigger... Three teams have been eliminated and 5 more can be after Day 6's games... Two more days of games and depending how it goes tomorrow's games will be even bigger! Excitment is brewing. Some scenario's: Group A:
Group B:
Group C:
Why is Rafael Ramirez below? Well he is the only true Puerto Rican on the Team Puerto Rican roster, so I think deserves a shout out.

Day 6 - Results
Ok so its must win or we are done... and we have our ace on the hill in Gabino Miller. I wish I could save him tomorrow, but if we don't win tonight there is no tomorrow. We are up against Chadds Ford Cannons SP John Robertson so it should be a tough game, we just need to score runs and shut their big bats down... Our lineup is the same as last game. I was tempted to remove Leslie Barnes and his 0 for 11 self from the lineup, but we won and I don't want to ruin that streak so he is in... at least for now.
CF Walt Hutchins C Will Lewis (L) RF Mark Hayes (L) 1B Jimmy Moore (L) DH Leslie Barnes (S) LF Ramiro Herrera (L) 2B Jon Fleming (S) 3B Dragon Karadzic SS Alonso Sandoval A lot of teams Round 2 shots are on the line today so lets see how it goes... Wow, what a game! We needed a win to stay a live, and we fought every inning. After taking a 2-1 lead in the third thanks to a Walt Hutchins 2-run HR, we blew it in the 6th when a tiring Gabino Miller gave up a huge 2-run shot to give Team-West the 3-2 lead. But we kept fighting and in the 8th Mr Hutchins would crush HR #2 giving tying the game... and in the bottom of the 9th after two strike-outs to start the inning, Dragon Karadzic was hit by a pitch. Bringing up SS Alonso Sandoval. With the lefty/lefty match-up I though about pinch hitting, but felt Sandoval's D at SS was to valuable to give up... Down to our last strike, the 1-2 curve-ball bounced to the back-stop moving Dragon to second... Then next pitch Sandoval stroked a single to RF, being gutsy I sent Karadzic despite the 'great' arm in RF... SAFE! Walk of win in the 9th! What a feeling!!! Gabino Miller: 5.0 IP, 4 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 3 BB, 5 K John O'Cawley (1-0): 4.0 IP, 0 H, BB, 2 K (<< he really deserved player of the game) Walt Hutchins: 3-4, 2 HR (2), 2 R, 3 RBI Alonso Sandoval: 2-4, R, RBI H: 8, LOB: 3 What a game! Group A: Team USA - DelMarVa took and early lead, but ended up fighting for the W, winning in the 9th down to their last strike to keep the season alive! Team USA - East came up big and kept their season alive with a huge win thanks to a great pitching performance by 3 pitchers. They came up when needed. Group B: Team Dominican Republic took care of business to remain the only unbeaten team in the tourney thanks to powerful bats and a solid showing by the bullpen. Team Puerto Rico kept up with the Joneses winning a blow and setting up a huge game tomorrow. Team Puerto showed off all their skills today with a complete game and 3 HR's. Group C: Team Cuba continued their improbable run winning a tough fought game thanks to 2-big HR's. Team Cuba controls their destiny in this tourney something no one would have imagined 7 days ago. Team Dutch Australia took home their first win of the tourney. Not only a win for pride, but a huge upset victory as well. In 12 innings the Dutch Australia team walked off celebrating. Down to the last day of games and no Group has been clinched, there are some big games in order tomorrow...

Day 7 - Schedule (final day of Group play)
We live to see another day, and are playing a HUGE game today. We are up against the Group A leader and will be facing off against a pretty solid pitcher... This team has continued to fight and we just haven't given up. Our fate is in our hands and I am excited for tomorrows game, it is going to be exciting!
Group A: Team USA - New England holds the 1-game lead in Group A with Team USA - DelMarVa breathing down their throat. If New England wins the division is theirs if DelMarVa wins we have a playoff. This is going to be an intense game. Does Team USA - New England take care of business, or does Team USA - DelMarVa continue their magic? Team USA - West is the only team that has been eliminated from Group A as of this point, and are 1 of 2 teams winless for the tourney. Today they go up against Team USA - East who pulled off a huge win yesterday and still has a shot for the Group A title with a win. Can Team USA - West get a win and pull off the upset, or will Team USA - East take the momentum from yesterday's big win and keep it going? Group B: A huge game takes place tomorrow when powerhouse Team Puerto Rico takes on powerhouse and undefeated Team Dominican Republic. Team Dominica Republic is pretty much assure a Round 2 game, but they won't be satisfied if they don't make it through Round 1 unscathed! They are only undefeated team remaining can they make it 6 and 0 or will Team Puerto Rico prove too much for them on this final day of Group play? Team Central America/Mexico takes Team South America in a game that means everything to Team Central America/Mexico, as they don't want to go home winless. Both teams have been eliminated from Round 2 play so the question is does Team South America bring their A-game or have they checked out already? Group C: Team Cuba controls their destiny and they like their position, as they take on Team Dutch/Australia, who is 1-4 on the tourney. Can Team Dutch/Australia bring the magic they had yesterday and take down Cuba or does Cuba clinch their way into Round 2? Don't write off Team Dutch/Australia just yet, even though they have been eliminated they have something to prove. Team Canada isn't quite out of it, but a loss will take them out of it, and they take on Team Asia who needs this win even more. Team Asia was picked to win this group and they need this W to lock in a wild card. Can Canada live to see another day or will Team Asia prove they are the team to beat and just had a slow start? Wow what a final day we have scheduled so much could happen... Here are some of the more likely scenario's. (I am pretty sure I have things set-up that there will be playoffs, at least I hope I do.) Group A: - A Team USA - New England win gives them the group title - A Team USA - DelMarVa win means there will be a playoff for the Group A title. - A Team USA - East win and Team USA - DelMarVa win means there will be a 3-team playoff. - A Team USA - East win and Team USA - DelMarVa loss means Team USA - East will have a wild card shot. Group B: - A Team Dominican Republic win gives them the Group B title. - A Team Puerto Rico win means there will be a playoff game for the Group B title and both teams make the playoffs. - A Team Puerto Rico loss means there could be a 6-team playoff for the final wild card slots and eliminates Team Canada. Group C: - A Team Cuba wins means they win Group C. - A Team Cuba loss and a Team Asia win, sets up a tie breaker for Group C, and a possibly 4-team playoff for the wild card and eliminates Team Canada. - A Team Canada win, means a Team Asia loss, and puts them at a 3-3 tie. And Canada will remain alive if Team USA - DMV and Team USA - East both loss, setting up a 4-way tie for the final wild card slot. So there you have it, we could have 1 more day left or 3 more days left... should be a fun last day of games either way.

Day 7 - Results
Well I am not ready to go home, but for that to happen we ahve to beat the #1 team in Group Team USA - North East. With our ace on the hill it will be up to Jorge Tovar, the pressure is on... The lineup is going to be the same, why ruin a hot thing? It is hard for me to keep Leslie Barnes in the game, he did get an RBI last game and we are winning with him. So why ruin a good thing.
CF Walt Hutchins C Will Lewis (L) RF Mark Hayes (L) 1B Jimmy Moore (L) DH Leslie Barnes (S) LF Ramiro Herrera (L) 2B Jon Fleming (S) 3B Dragon Karadzic SS Alonso Sandoval The North East took the lead early with a big 2-run HR by Jim Shelton off of Jorge Tovar. In the third light hitting Jon Fleming drove a shot right down the right-field line just staying fair and tying the game... Tovar would pitch a shut-out third, but walk off the field hurt and unable to go on. In step Bob Spears a 34-year-old veteran who was up for the task. Spears would mow down the North East for the next 5.1 innings, allowing just one base runner when he hit the #9 hitter, but other than that he was on fire... And in the 6th we would take the lead and guess who gave it us? Yes the guy I think about removing every game, Leslie Barnes! Barnes would hit a solo-shot over the RF wall and give us the 3-2 lead. Bernard McCormick retired the last two hitters and that was all she wrote. We lived to see another day. Leslie Barnes: 1-4, HR (1), 2 R, RBI Jon Fleming: 1-3, HR (1), R, RBI Jorge Tovar: 3.0 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 3 K Bernard Spears (1-1): 5.1 IP, 0 H, 5 K Bernard McCormick (SV 1): 0.2 IP, K H: 3, LOB: 4 The final day of round-robin games and a lot was on the line how did everyone make out? Group A: Team USA - DMV had to win to stay alive and after falling back early they did what they have done the last 4 games and crawled back into it thanks to an amazing pitching performance and timely hitting. Team USA - East needed a win to stay alive, as well, and they did just that thanks to a combined shut-out and late inning runs. Group B: Team Dominican Republic took how win #6 and remained the only unbeaten in Round 1. A close hard fought came Team Dominican clinched the top slot with runs in the 6th and 7th. In a game for pride Team South America took home the big W and walked away with a big win. They were eliminated from competition yesterday, but they will go home winners today. Group C: Team Canada/Europe needed a win and a lot of other things to happen. They got the win thanks to lock-down 2-hit pitching performance... unfortunately for Team Canada/Europe all the other things didn't go their way. Team Cuba needed a win to lock down Group C and that is just want they did. They took care of business thanks to 3 HR's, taking care of what they had to do. --- We aren't quite done with round one just yet... With Team USA - DMV beating Team USA - New England, and Team USA - East beating Team USA - west it set-up a 3-way tie for 1st in Group A. And with Team Puerto Rico losing to Team Dominican it set-up a 4-way tie for both wild cards. Of the four teams remaining 3 will make the playoffs, and only 1 will be going on. Playoff games will be starting tomorrow.

Day 8 - Schedule
Well we pulled of an amazing ending to the tourney winning our final 3-games and pulling out a tie for the Group A lead, and now we face off in a playoff game to see if we can make Round 2... The problem with this game is our top 3 pitches are out... Gabino Miller tired, Bob Spears tired, and Jorge Tovar injured, which means we will be going with #4 and all hands on deck. So Luis Diaz will be throwing and making his first appearance of this tourney. Should be interesting... And we are going up against Hugh Duncan who shut us down on Day 3. Going to be a tough game for us, but I have faith.
Lets recap: Group A: Ended up being the most even group, with three of four teams ending with 4 wins. However Team USA - West is going home with 6 L's and 0 W's. All 3 teams still have a shot at making round 2. Group B: With two of the powerhouse teams this was the group to watch, and Team Dominican didn't disappoint cruising to a an undefeated 6 and 0 showing in group play. Team Puerto Rico, the other powerhouse, won every game they played, expect the two against Team Dominican to finish tied for the wild card... Team Central America ended the tournament 0-6 and will go home as 1 of 2 teams that went winless. Group C: Team Cuba surprised everyone and took down the favorite Team Asia and will be the lone representative in round 2 form the group. Team Asia and Team Canada tied for second and team Dutch Australia finishing last, but pulling off a huge upset over Team Asia. Playoff Games to get into Round 2: Game A: Team USA - DelMarVa will take on Team USA - New England. These two teams split the series during round-robin play. The winner will earn their way into Round 2. Game B: Team USA - East takes on Group B wild card Team Puerto Rico. If Team Puerto Rico loses they go home, if Team USA - East loses they will play the loser of Game A to see who wins the second wild card. The three teams tied for Group A's lead will have to play 2 more games heading into the second round. Then play the Wild Card game in effort to make it into the semi-final. That I a lot of games left. (I am not 100% sure how this is going to work, but there can't be tie. So I am guessing there will 2 days of games to determine the final 3 teams. Going to be interesting and fun.)

Day 8 - Results
We lost to Hugh Duncan and Team North East on Day 3, but I am feeling good about this team right now. It really is going to depend on how our starter Luis Diaz does, can he find himself and shut down this powerful offense? Heck, will our offense figure out Hugh Duncan? All I know is I will be very happy if we can put some crooked numbers quickly. I don't want to deal with a comeback today (I will if necessary, but won't a blow-out feel so much better). Of course the line-up is the same we have stuck with, and I really hope Leslie Barnes can stay warm and get a couple of hits tonight. That will be big league right there.
CF Walt Hutchins C Will Lewis (L) RF Mark Hayes (L) 1B Jimmy Moore (L) DH Leslie Barnes (S) LF Ramiro Herrera (L) 2B Jon Fleming (S) 3B Dragon Karadzic SS Alonso Sandoval I wanted to score first and we did, with a double by Mark Hayes following a walk to Will Lewis we took the 1-0 and it would last that way all the way till the 9th... and man did we have our chances, but we just couldn't get that insurance run... in the bottom of the 9th, I brought in my closer John O'Cawley, and I was feeling good... Oh did I mention we had a 3-pitcher combined no-hitter going at this this point???... We it didn't last long, a lead-off double broke that up and 3-batters later, with 2-outs a single up the middle tied the game... into extra's. Top 10th: Walk - Strike out - Strike out - Strike out (2-3-4-5, that was a missed chance) Top 11th: Walk - Sac, runners safe - Sac bunt - 1 out runners on 1st and second, infield in - ground ball to third - fly-out. Top 12th: strike out - ground out - fly out (3-4-5, UGH) Bottom 12th: Single - strike out - single - single - heartbreak! 2-1 12 innings... Luis Diaz: 6.1 IP, 0 H, 2 BB, 2 K Bernard McCormick: 1.1 IP, 0 H, BB, K Andrew Clark: 0.1 IP, 0 H John O'Cawley (BS 1): 2.0 IP, 3 H, R, BB Shawn Anderson (0-1): 1.1 IP, 4 H, R, BB, K Jimmy Moore: 2-5 Jon Fleming: 2-3, 3B H: 6, LOB: 9 This was a game of missed chances, there really is no excuse to lose this game, all we needed is one lousy insurance run, ONE! Playoff Games: Team USA - New England was no-hit through 8, but pulled the game off in 12. The big win means they will be headed to round 2. Team Puerto Rico battled scoring runs in the 3rd, 5th and 7th while their pitching held on tight and keep their opponents at bay. Its all they needed and they will be heading to round 2.

Day 9 - Schedule
It comes down to this, a play in game between Team USA - DMV versus Team USA - East, one game for the final wild card... its hard not to think that we shouldn't be playing this game, but we will be. We split with Team USA - East to start the tourney and it seems like it has been years since those games...
That being said we have a huge problem on our hands... SP Henry Burns (75% slightly tired), SP Luis Diaz (0% exhausted), SP Gabino Miller (53% tired), SP Bob Spears (36% tired), SP Jorge Tovar (58% tired).. So Burns will have the ball for us. He has only pitched 3.1 innings thus far, so hopefully he can get us a few. I am hoping for 4 then who knows after that... Group A Winner: Team USA - New England (5-2) Group B Winner: Team Dominican Republic (6-0) Group C Winner: Team Cuba (5-1) Wild Card 1: Team Puerto Rico (5-2) Wild Card 2: Will be decided today! The road isn't going to get any easier for the winner today, as they will turn around and play Team Puerto Rico... But for now we are going to focus on today!

Day 9 - Results
Well this is it from here on out, win or go home... And we play a tough team and face a tough pitcher. We haven't seen Robbie Kelly during this tourney so I am not sure if that is good or not... I planned to go with the same lineup as I have been with the exception of 3B, Dragon Karadzic (2-21) will be replaced in the lineup by Alan Carson (5-10), however LF Ramon Herrera is sore from a strained rib-cage suffered last game. Supposedly it won't bother him much but I don't want to risk it... so in comes Joe Hoffman... Henry Barnes will be on the hill for at least 3 innings (hopefully), but he isn't very well rested so I will need some good fortune.
CF Walt Hutchins C Will Lewis (L) RF Mark Hayes (L) 1B Jimmy Moore (L) DH Leslie Barnes (S) LF Joe Hoffman (L) 2B Jon Fleming (S) 3B Alan Carson (S) SS Alonso Sandoval Lets see how this one goes... Team USA - DelMarVa struck first in the 2nd, when late day replacement, Joe Hoffman, hit a 2-run HR just clearing the RF wall... In the bottom of the third, Henry Burns hit a trouble patch with runners on first and third. A hard grounder to third should have ended the inning, but Alan Carson flubbed the grounder allowing Team USA - East to score their first run. The game would go on 2-1 until the 8th. The 8th started off with back-to-back singles by Jimmy Moore and Leslie Barnes (after 2 K's I was ready to remove Barnes from the game). Then that man Joe Hoffman came up again and crushed a run scoring double to right-center. After an intentional walk to load the bases, SS Alonso Sandoval was walked to bring in our second run of the inning and give us a 4-1 lead... Jimmy Moore hit a solo-shot in the 9th for an insurance run and a 5-1 lead... and after a triple to Bobby Hamilton, Andrew Clark retired one and gave up a single. But that was all they would get as Kerry Neal would come and close it out with a strike-out... game over Wild Card won. Round 2 - Bracket - Day 10 / A Day of Rest
The Wild Card is set and the single-elimination Round 2 is about to begin. Luckily for Team USA - DelMarVa they will get a day off before needing to play, and hopefully get some of their pitching rested... but the road to victory doesn't get any easier for them.
The Wild Card Game is set with Team USA - DelMarVa facing off against Team Puerto Rico... and the winner plays Team Dominican Republic, the #1 seed. In the other bracket the winner of Team USA - New England, the #3 seed, will play Team Cuba, the #2 seed. The winners go on to the Championship game. This should be fun!

Day 11 - Wild Card
We earned the wild card slot and now it is go time. In all honesty I am not sure how we got this far, but its been an awesome run. This Puerto Rico team is going to be a tough opponent, but if we can keep their offense in check we will have a shot... the best part about this game is we have our ace on the hill in Gabino Miller, and our bullpen is 100% rested!
I am going with the same lineup as I did last game. I almost put Dragon back in at 3B, but in the end I decided against it. CF Walt Hutchins C Will Lewis (L) RF Mark Hayes (L) 1B Jimmy Moore (L) DH Leslie Barnes (S) LF Joe Hoffman (L) 2B Jon Fleming (S) 3B Alan Carson (S) SS Alonso Sandoval This is pretty awesome and I am ready to take home a second round W! We gave up an early run in the 3rd thanks to some poor defense, but we didn't give up and in the 7th we tied it up. Not to mention in the 7th we collected our first hit of the game, as John Denton was dealing! Mark Hayes collected an infield single to break up the no-hitter, and then Jimmy Moore crushed a double. With runners on 2nd and 3rd the next two hitters would walk, and we tied the game. Unfortuantly we left the bases loaded and that really hurt. With Gabino Miller at 102 pitches I decided to make the move, which turned out to be a huge mistake. Andrew Clark came out dealing, striking out the first two hitters he faced and then all heck broke loose, two pitches, 2 hits and 4 walks later we were down 5-1! And that was all she wrote... our dream season was over just like that. Gabino Miller: 6.0 IP, 8 H, R, BB, 5 K Andrew Clark (0-1): 0.2 IP, 2 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 2 K Mark Hayes: 1-4, R Jimmy Moore: 1-4, 2B Steve Garner: 0-0, RBI H: 2, LOB: 5 Wild Card Game: Behind a dominate pitching performance Team Puerto Rico advances to the Semi-Finals to face the top seed.

Day 12 - Semi Finals Schedule
Day 12 brings us the semi-finals with 2-games on tap. The winners go the WBC Championship game, the losers go home.
The first game of the day is Team Puerto Rico vs Team Dominican Republic. Both teams were predicted to get this far, but when Team Dominican Republic went undefeated it was quite surprising. They beat Team Puerto Rico 2-times during Round 1, can they beat them again for the third time or will Puerto Rico take game 3? This is going to be a fun game. In the second game the surprising Team Cuba will play host to Team USA - New England. Team Cuba has their ace on the hill and will play for the upset, but Team New England, despite the need to play an extra-game to get in is ready to take them on. Pitching or hitting what is going to win this game? This should be a fun and surprising day. I am expecting two low scoring games, but at this point in the tourney who can really predict.

Day 13 - Day Off / Championship Set
The DelMarVa Baseball League - World Baseball Classic's final 2 teams are set and ready to go. With both remaining teams playing in the play-in round to get into Round 2
As the Wild Card, Team Puerto Rico, will be the visiting team during the Championship game. Team Puerto Rico finished round-robin play 4-2 and needed to beat Team USA - East to earn the top wild-card slot. During the wild card they took down Team USA - DelMarVa to earn the slot in the semi-finals. The semi-final game matched them with the #1 seed, Team Dominican Republic, who beat them two times during round-robin play. They took down the #1 seed and now will face off against the #3 seed. If they win this game, they will have beaten three Team USA teams. Team USA - New England won Group A after beating Team USA - DelMarVa in the play-in game. That win mean they had a bye in the first round of the tournament. During Round 2 they took on the #2 seed and 5-1 Team Cuba. They scored against Team Cuba's pitching, which the other teams haven't been able to do, to earn the right to appear in the Championship game. This should be an interesting game, as Team Puerto Rico is stacked and playing well. And Team USA - New England is ready to prove their run hasn't been a fluke. Who will take home the title? We will find out tomrrow.

Day 14 - The Championship Game
Championship Game Highlights:
Juan Hernandez against Tim Lynch in a game that many figured to be a pitches duel. As two of the games top pitchers faced off against each other. Outside of a walk Tim Lynch had a solid first inning. And in the bottom half of the inning Team USA - New England gave him some runs to work with, making his job easy. Jim Shelton lead-off the first with a solo-HR. His HR was followed by a John Minor single. With a runner on first Marvin Garrett cleared the left-field wall with a 2-run HR and just like that Team USA - New England had a 3-0 lead. The game would remain 3-0 until the 5th, when Marvin Garret who do it again. Almost an instant reply of his first inning HR. He circled the bases making it a 4-0 game. Team Puerto Rico would begin to fight back in the top half of the 6th with back-to-back HR's by Tyrone Jackson and Patrick Coates. Tim Lynch showed some signs of struggle, maybe he was getting tired. But he came out in the 7th and shut down Team Puerto Rico sending the game to the 8th 4-2. Robert Torres was called on to shut things down in the 8th for Team USA - New England, but with 2-outs Team Puerto Rico would get something going, thanks in large part to a 3-2 walk to Tyrone Jackson. Jackson, would move to second on a Jarred Martin single, the score on a Petar Mrdja single. With runners on first and second Leo O'Connor had his chance to give Team Puerto Rico the lead, but Torres got his stuff together and struck him out. in the top of the 9th, Team Puerto Rico's last chance, Robert Torres remained in the game, setting up a big finish. Ray Crowe struck out for out #1. Allan Cameron singled to right. Pinch hitter Logan McJannett grounded out to first, moving the winning run to second, and bringing up lead-off man Howard Gray... Gray swung at the first pitch he saw blasting a high-fly ball out to center field where Maxmillion Wallstreet camped underneath it for the final out of the game... And giving Team USA - New England the first DelMarVa Baseball League World Baseball Championship title! Team Puerto Rico: Juan Herandez (1-1): 5.2 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 8 K Ernie Kennedy: 2.1 IP, 3 K Tyrone Jackson: 2-3, HR (5), 2 R, RBI Patrick Coates: 2-4, HR (3), R, RBI Petar Mrjda: 2-4, RBI Allan Cameron: 2-3 H: 8, LOB: 7 Team USA - New England: Tim Lynch (2-1): 7.0 IP, 5 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 4 K Robert Torres (SV 3): 2.0 IP, 3 H, R, BB, 2 K Marvin Garrett: 2-4, 2 HR (3), 2 R, 3 RBI Jim Shelton: 1-4, HR (2), R, RBI Dave McGinnity: 1-4, 2B H: 9, LOB: 4 The game lived up to the hype and Team USA - New England earned the title.

The 2037 DBL WBC Tournament Comes to an End
I enjoyed doing this tournament and it was a nice surprise seeing Team USA - New England walk away with the title. I really didn't think anyone was going to be able to beat Team Dominican Republic or Team Puerto Rico... and I do have to say it is nice to see Team Puerto Rico lose since I messed up the regions and gave them quite the power house team... I am hoping to do this again in 2039 (I am working on uniforms and logos now), but that is still two season away as the 2038 season is about to start spring training. Maybe I will do it again during 2038 off-season, we will see.
I enjoyed this tournament I am happy with the layout, including the extra play-in games. I think it added another level to the wild card. I also was surprised that Team Cuba walked away with the Group C title, while Team Asia struggled. It was an enjoyable ride and one I am glad I went on. I do think it was best for me to break this out and do it as its own league, yes the stats won't carry over, but it made things run smoother, plus being able to remove everyone's injuries was a nice addition... Maybe I will have to coach a different team next time, a different challenge... Possibly, Central America who couldn't pull of a W. That is all from here, I hope you enjoyed the 2037 DelMarVa Baseball League World Baseball Classic Tournament. Signing off.
