Career Ending Injury, but...
Interesting "development" in a solo game I have on the go at the moment. I had a reliever go out with an injury that eventually turned CEI on May 10, 1998 as seen below. Oddly, in the next Player Development update on June 1st, he was doing quite well?!?
He had been out for several weeks prior to the CEI, so I don't know that this would be a clerical error of filing the report prior to injury. Certainly not a huge deal, but just an observation. I hope my trainer continues to work with him...maybe there's a miraculous comeback in his future - his is only 25! |

Couple possibilities here:
1. Do you have scouting on? 2. If no, do you have Scouting Reports set to update monthly during season? If the answer is #2, I think it has to do with the fact that he was injured the 10th of May, so his development for the 1st 9 days of May would still have occurred and that is what's being reported. If it's not #2, then I can't think of what else might have caused it. NM - cancel that - I misread it first time. I see it was just a setback on 10 May. Sorry, can't figure this one out. Scouting is on. Reports are set to monthly.
And yes, he was injured earlier and the notification of CEI came with the message about. No big deal, just surprised me when I saw his name leading the report. |

Can you look on the player page and see if it still shows him as injured, or as actually retired. It may be that until he actually does retire, he's still considered active, even though injured. Is he still on the DL?
I'm just reaching here btw, but am curious as to what caused this. |

My guess is that the guy isn't technically retired, as I don't think the game lets players retire during the season, and all retirements are done on the same day in the offseason. While he's still technically active and on the DL, he's still being scouted as if he were coming back.
Ideally, players who suffer a CEI would be removed from the roster and retired immediately by the game. |

He did not "retire" until a week before the end of the season when I received that message. Could be he is still considered active until the official retirement. and it likely would never have been as noticeable until the new feature of performance messages in 14 (which are great btw).

I think what it is and I could be quite wrong, is that the player remains active until the end of the season and then is retired. When I have had this happen, I moved the player to the 60 day DL and freed up his spot on both roster and the expanded rosters.
