Great stuff, as ever. The career-stage ratings are particularly interesting and useful for historical recreations when it comes to guys who stayed around too long or otherwise lowered their overall database rating over time. I'm particularly looking forward to putting the '60s Sugar Ray through his paces ...
I've already incorporated your Cooney into my Page/80s heavyweight universe and Willard into the '20s tournament, with your Jack Johnson end-stage getting ready for action. Other guys from the early 80s I'd like to respectfully request would include Coetzee (and Snipes, if you think his rating would be vastly different -- I have the impression he wasn't that different in 1989 than in 1981), Dokes, Cobb, Weaver, Tate, and Page (naturally), as well as anyone else from that era you think would benefit from Deanification. I didn't remember seeing these guys while going through your archive, or upon a quick re-browse, so my apologies if they've already been done. Please don't let any of this interfere with your interesting new universe or any other requests. Coetzee is the only one who is coming up quickly, and his database version would certainly suffice for the Snipes fight scheduled for tonight. Thanks again for your efforts. As one who has not delved into the world of rating fighters, but is interested in doing so, the explanations of how you look at fighters earlier in the thread are particularly insightful.

Not yet -- didn't dig into this thread until after the Holmes-L. Spinks fight in my uni. But I'll download him now and put him into training for his next defense.
Professordp pointed me towards your heavyweight rankings when I asked him about which late-term Ali he used in his Stevenson uni. I'm debating whether he makes a comeback in my 1981 (if he does, it won't be as the rather pathetic figure who fought Berbick in real life), and find his auto-aged version in the database to be too glass-chinned to jive with reality. If anything, he was too tough for his own good, unfortunately. On that note, have you or would you do a comeback Frazier? Or do you think the auto-end would be about right for the guy who fought Jumbo?

These are great latter 70s ratings. I'm going to recreate my Teophilo Stevenson matchups from my uni and see the results.
Only wish I would have had them to use in the uni when it was running last year! |
