Who is being taught that?

When you see someone of your race overcome a stereotype that Bill Polian expressed, you're happy. Cause you know it makes it easier for those that will follow. Why do you think Peyton Hillis ended up on the cover of Madden? It wasn't because of a bunch of Browns fans. It was because white people were happy to see a white man overcome the stereotype that whites can't play HB. I had no problem with that. I'm elated he and McCaffrey, Sehorn, & Thielen crushed or are crushing that prejudicial thinking.

The problem comes from fans like the ones in Atlanta who refused to pull for Matt Ryan when he replaced Mike Vick. There is no doubt Vick has been unjustly demonized by over-zealous activists. The man paid for his crimes & made amends. But his replacement in Atlanta had nothing to do with race. Those particular fans made it about race.

You don't support someone just because of his color. You support someone because he is advancing the opportunities for your color.

equality doesn't mean "pretend race doesn't exist"

I see nothing wrong at all with rooting for a person with a similar background to you. Thats what people connect to and honestly is more logical than rooting for a person based on the uniform color they wear.

In particular when people "with a similar background" have had to fight to get the opportunity to play at all.

I'm getting tired of hearing about who is a black quarterback and who is a white quarterback. Eventually people will be judged on their merits.

Echoing that sentiment, multiple NFL players are indicted in a healthcare scheme,
including Clinton Portis. Joe Horn & Reche Caldwell are expected to be charged as well.

I don't like Dirk Nowvitzki more than Michael Jordan, even though I am white.

OK, but do you understand why a German NBA fan might be drawn to rooting for Nowitzki?

Larry Bird was a bit before my time, but whenever someone brings up Bird during discussions on all time best players, you can safely assume that they look a bit more like Bird than Jordan

I don't know, when you're talking all time I think you should be honest. Even though I think Bird was an anomaly even for a white player, that's how good he was, I'd take Jordan over him and I look more like Larry. Jordan was just a game changer on another level.

Times are rough. Sometimes you do what you have to do to put food on the table.

IMO, Spygate alone takes him out of HOF contention. But hey, that's just me. I will always maintain that HOF members should be elite.

That said, I don't believe the same applies to Brady in regards to deflating a football. Why? Because I do not believe that is cheating. If nothing else Deflategate did one thing, it clearly showed who didn't play a down of football in their entire lives.

Don't get me wrong, I realize you don't need to play football to know football. But this is a unique situation. If you've never played a lot of football it will show in your comments regarding deflating footballs.

Not really. I put him up there among the top 10, 15 or so. I've never sat down & done a list. But Bird & Magic are a closer ancestor to LBJ than Jordan was. In fact, when it comes strictly on the court, those 2 did more to change the game than Michael did. Jordan's impact is on the grander sports scale than merely basketball.

Sure, I understand rooting for someone in regards to nationality more than race. At some point being a black quarterback will not be a big deal. I feel like the media tries to instigate racial strife rather than make it better.

That's you. You're not right. You're not wrong. Neither are Lamar's fans.

EXACTLY! And when will that happen? When the "experts" as a whole stops suggesting Heisman Trophy QB's should play elsewhere in the NFL. That comes to fruition faster if Lamar is able to expand the public's horizons. That's something worth rooting for.
