Is 74 the Highest Base Running Rating?

The Kakoola Reapers, after a moribund, barely avoiding relegation, 71-91 season, turned to the lottery to salve the season's wounds. They pulled a 93 Willie Howard Mays! Let the healing begin.

Which brings me to the headline of this thread. There has never been, nor will there ever be, a smarter, better base-runner than the Say Hey Kid. Leonard Koppett wrote, "The most exciting play in baseball is Willie Mays running out a triple."

That minor quibble aside, Kakoola's future has never been brighter. They landed the best 5-tool player this old timer has ever seen.

Wait till next year!

I saw Willie Mays play. Whatever numbers they crunched to get his rating need adjustment. That said, his other ratings seem fair.

Willie didn't look for the coaches, they looked for him. The other outfielders didn't look to the bench to set their position before the pitch. They looked to Willie.

There can only be one GOAT. For me, it will always be Willie Mays.

My father told me he saw Willie in the minors when he was a kid when Willie played for the Minneapolis Millers. A couple of the old deadball players mentioned in the fantastic book "Glory of their times" the fact they thought Willie was someone who was as good as the old guys they recalled when they played. These guys were all 70-80 years old but when they were interviewed in 1963 held Willie in high regard.

Trout's live card is a 99 baserunning.

For pure speed though, there's none better than Terrance Gore:
