Retired Players "unretiring" in historical leagues
Good evening guys. My problem is one i'm hoping is easy to fix.
I'm on season 18 or 19 of a historical league i started in yr 1977 on OOTP15. i've bought every version and keep rolling it over. Its my favorite hobby. The last few seasons (might coincide with OOTP 17?) each year when we roll into the next season, players who have retired earlier than they did in MLB, reactivate/unretire somehow into their team's minor league system. Like for example, in my league cal ripken got hurt a bunch of times, lost his abilities and retired in 1990. Each year since he shows back up on the Orioles. This happens for dozens and dozens of guys - and i have to figure out who they are and manually retire them again. Is there an easy way to fix this? When someone retires in my game, i want them to stay retired, regardless of how their MLB careers shook out. Thanks in advance. I love this game! |

Do you have "retire according to history" checked?

No. If I check that, will it go the other way in the game? Like say a guy retired at 33 in MLB but in the replay he's having a very good career and is still going strong then..will it make him retire at that point? Because i dont necessarily want that either.
It never used to do this in prior versions. Thanks in advance! |

I've noticed this too. It *might* be connected to the draft setting, although I'm not sure why that would be the case. I play a historical league with Cleveland starting in 1902, and for the first few years, I had a draft and did not notice this problem. Around 1907 or so, I disabled the draft and had players automatically assigned to the teams with which they made their debuts -- and right around that time, I noticed that on the day after the season ended, "retired" players would end up on my reserve roster (including those who had not played for my franchise at any point since the league began in 1902) -- and that happened for several years in a row for the same retired players. A little digging indicated that the "unretired" players played for Cleveland in real life for the seasons in question.
I resumed the regular draft following the 1910 season, and did not have that problem recur. But I'm not sure if it's tied to the draft setting in any way, or mere coincidence based on their real-life careers. I don't have the "retire according to history" option selected. |

I just had this happen in my league, and it's completely perplexing. This is my second full season of playing 17 with a league I imported from 16. My first full season I didn't notice this at all, but this season? At least 25 players I've been able to identify popped out of nowhere.
I have "Retire according to history" unchecked because I want my universe to be an alternate universe. I have the draft enabled and automatically import historical rookies checked. Is there any way to prevent this? I think I can identify most of the players because they have no individual talent ratings, so I just sort all players by "Contact" or something arbitrary, and all the ones with "-" can be mass-selected and forced to retire. But I'm afraid this will screw with Hall of Fame eligibility, so I'd really like to keep it from happening. Does anyone know if this got fixed in 18? |
