Budget Baller picks?

Just curious as to what are some guys that you have that really outperform your expectations based on their ratings and price paid. For example, my guys:

John Olerud: 69 overall rating performs well enough to continue starting up to Gold level.

SS Amed Rosario: 77 Overall and very inexpensive, hitting 275 with a 305 OBP in gold league with a great glove.

RP DJ Johnson: 71 OVR absolute lights out in bronze and silver, ERA under 3 at Gold league with a WHIP of 1.28

What guys do you have that continually impress you? What guys do you have that are just complete duds despite having great ratings?

One Hit Wonder Colabello (Low 70s OVR) always produced really well for me. He's not bad as a bench piece either since he can play 1B, LF, and RF.

Tony Gwynn 69 is a hit machine and plays great defense (85) in right, while Larry Bowa 67 has 94 defense and hits over .250, both in gold currently.
On the mound I´ve had great success from Ryan Tepera live (currently 72). He´s never had an ERA over 3.00 and gets a ton of strikeouts.

That Gwynn is a monster for a 69 rating. Unfortunately no Tepera's in the AH.

I also have had luck with Olerud. And I picked up DJ Johnson a few days ago when I was impressed what I saw with his ratings. He'll get an opportunity next season.

At Catcher, I have been impressed with 66OVR Wolters. Good defense and eye and bats lefty. Also has the ability to play other positions with training.

RP Kyle Crick is also another one that often out-performs his bronze rating. Currently 96 stuff and 69 movement and has 3 80+ pitches. Movement is becoming more important for my relievers.

I also use Amed Rosario. He's great. Spike Owen is another good MI option with multi-position trainability.

The 69 overall Gwynn is a machine. I am in the silver leagues with all three of my teams and he had a 54 game hit streak in one of them.
Sometimes he is purely a singles hitter and his OPS+ will be 95-110 but you could do far worse for a bronze card.

Have fun with Rosario now. Once they update fielding ratings, his error rating will probably go down to negative eleven.

I like to stuff my team with Mets, but that guy drives me up the wall …

The 1997 Raul Mondesi (72) has been a good source of offense for my free team. Had an .826 OPS in Silver, but the strikeouts are already up, so he will probably not last in Gold.

The only met I have is David Wright. I tried Howard Johnson, but he completely sucked.

My cheap lo-rated guys that still do bring it at Diamond level:

67 Steve Sax(cost=200): ideal DH vs. lefties plus I use him as a pitch-runner against righties.

79 Daniel Murphy (cost=1500,year=2016) can be trained as a 74-DEF 1B who has a potent bat (everything but eye) against Righties (pretty bad against lefties though). He has won three 1B batting awards, and been leading RBI man in the league for two years (most recently, at the gold level).

and, saving the best for last:

76 Harry Walker(cost=800) has been batting average champion of my league for three years (most recently, in diamond) and can be trained to DEF=81 in LF.

For me, the cheap part is key since I am strictly FTP.

When do they update fielding ratings? Will speed ratings get updated at any point? Thanks

Pretty sure only the main 5 batting ratings for batters and 3 main pitching ratings are updated, including L/R splits. Fielding and running ratings will remain as they are.

That's what I read from one of the Developers a couple weeks ago. I'm not on here everyday and didn't know if any decision on that had changed since.

All Star Shawn Green is an excellent platoon bat that has won multiple GGs for me.

Some of those ratings (contact, movement, et al) are cumulative ratings, incorporating separate public and hidden ratings. Even if this is true for our practical purposes, the nature of these ratings mean that it cannot be technically true.
