1919 World Series Fixing Scandal! Voters needed!

ed. note: during my historical replay, I decided to keep an eye out for a team in the late teens that blew a World Series they were supposed to win, and when that happened, I decided to check the players on the team.

If 6 or more players both a) had a greed rating of 6 or higher (2-8 scale) and b) performed significantly lower during the World Series than they did during the Regular Season, an investigation would have to take place to see whether or not the games were fixed.

In 1919, (of all years!) the heavily favoured New York Giants met the Chicago White Sox (ironically) in the Fall Classic. They lost, and the series went to the ninth game. Presented are the starting eight, and the pitching staff of the '19 Giants.

Your votes will help decide who gets indicted for cheating. My assumption is that players with high greed and notably worse stats were probably involved, and also possibly some players with low greed but also low intelligence.

Please feel free to discuss who you think threw games and who you think didn't before making your final vote. Any information you might need, I'll be happy to provide. Anyone with over 50% votes will be banned from my historical simulation for LIFE!

I take it that it was meant to be multiple-choice.

Well, if I had mod powers in this forum, I'd try to help, but I don't.

I would certainly say Burns is guilty. Dumb, greedy, and couldnt hit the side of a barn in the playoffs.

If he had accomplises, I think Merkle is a good candidate. Another greedy dumb guy. However, his OBP isnt that far off from his regular season number, with a small sample size of playoff appearances, but he certainly didnt put any power into whatever he was hitting.

Snodgrass is another one I would suspect if I had to pick another one

The others just seem like they got outplayed.

Could you provide a account of what each player did in each game? I mean if he doesnt get a hit everytime players are in scoring position or until his team is way behind or if he just happens to make an error with a runner on third and is greedy then it might give us a better idea of who to pick. Right now i cant see a player being guilty simply because he wants a lot of money and cant hit in the series.

But i do like the idea of banning a player if gets more than 50%. I think it gives your league a little more flavor of reality.
