Please educate someone from several decades and even more time zones away. Why would you put baseball cards in the spokes of your bicycle wheels?

Because no one knew baseball cards would ever be worth anything until the 1980s or so and they made a cool sound when riding a bike.

My grandmother threw away my inheritance (Dad's baseball cards). He had all of the great cards everyone talks about and he didn't do the bike thing.

Why not? They were plentiful and you could get 5 of them plus a piece of gum for a nickel. Wear them out and you just buy more.

The purpose was the noise as said above.

One of the cool things about Perfect Team is coming across players that you have not heard about or thought about for years, and saying "Oh yeah, I remember him!" That keeps happening to me as I look at box scores and league news.
