The Superbas were ready for extra innings against the Pirates but Sam Mertes botched what should have been the third out, allowing the Pirates to grab the 4-3 win.

It looked like Brooklyn was finally going to beat Pittsburgh but the Pirates came back and won in the bottom of the ninth, 8-7.

Joe Kelley had a nice day, going 3 for 4.

Not a good day to be Pat Moran. Brooklyn was up 2-1 but a two-base throwing error and a passed ball, both by Moran, led to two unearned runs and a 3-2 win for the Cardinals.
