Here is an interesting subplot...
If you look at the positional strength report, the league thinks that the Superbas' best shortstop is Tommy Corcoran and their best right fielder is Charlie Hemphill. When Ned Hanlon makes up the line-ups, however, he is playing Francisco Torres at short and Cesar Gonzalez in right. It sounds to me like Hanlon is telling traditional thinking to take a hike and refusing to assume that the white players are better! Time to give these latin players a shot!

Brooklyn opened the season at home and it was an exciting game, despite not going the Superbas way. They fell 3-2 to the Beaneaters. Cesar Gonzalez got the first hit of the season for the Bums, and Pat Moran got the first RBI. Bill Bradley left the game with a stiff back in the third and it is expected they will rest him for a couple of days. WP - Vic Willis (1-0) LP - Bill Donovan (0-1) Record - 0-1

Well, Boston spoiled Brooklyn's home opener and now the Superbas have returned the favour, beating the Beaneaters 7-5. Cesar Gonzalez went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI. His first three at-bats were a single, double and triple but he couldn't find the seats to complete the cycle. WP - Doc McJames (1-0) Save - Frank Morrissey (1) LP - Ham Iburg (0-1) Record - 2-1
