A pair of ratings questions

1. What is the baseline of 20 current/potential supposed to represent? Is a player with a 20 of 80 potential supposed to be a career A ball player or more like a borderline major leaguer?

2. Is it normal for my players current overall ratings to fluctuate in between scoutings? I have my scouting on a monthly basis if that makes a difference.

Apologizes if these questions have been asked before, i couldn't find any threads on them.

1. Current is that, what the player is currently at. Potential is what he could possibly reach given proper development, playing time, etc etc etc. OOTP does a good job of mirroring real life. Not all the good potential players reach their potential. A myriad of things can happen, like long term injuries, career enders, kid just doesn't have it. Not all low rated players turn out as scrubs. There's always some surprises, think Mike Piazza.

2. Yes, very normal. Even with 100% accurate scouting it will change, because as mentioned above, players develop, up and down.

Though it seems to me quite a lot of the "development" tracked by the scouts is really just the equivalent of hot/cold streaks. Figuring out when you're seeing genuine steps forward (or genuine decline) is the tricky part.

Favors Ability, and he's Legendary at Scout Majors and Scout International, though only Decent and Average at Minors and Amateurs.

i think this is what happens with scout based on ability... it`s what you have done recently.

1. They could be either. It depends on the ratings. Players with ratings on the high end of the scale that puts them at 20 are likely to be MLB bench players/AAAA guys. Many of the lower rated 20 pot guys are simply career milb players, some of who won't make it out of the rookie leagues and some of whom will make it as high as AAA.

2. Yes.
