NOTE: The two trades made during Spring Training were to shore up the catcher position, seeing that both Frank Chance and the departed Johnny Kling were injury prone for the first few seasons. Win Mercer should add a little depth to the bullpen.

Thanks Progen, it will be interesting to see if this team, which really hasnt added many rookies of note in the past two years can get better iike they did in real life. In 1904, we finished in 2nd, but were still 13 games out of first, the Giants won 106 games and the seemingly unbeatable Pirates fell to 4th, winning only 87. This should be a real challenge this year, depends on if we can stay healthy enough to win.

The first half of the 1904 season has proven to be a crazy season. The Cubs, Giants, Reds and Pirates have been trading places at the top all season long, and it has been interesting to watch.

My Cubs are above .500 and have actually been in first place twice but never for more than a day or two. Tom Hughes and Jock Menefee have led the way on the mound, but have winning records and eras under 2.00. As for the offensive side of things, Joe Tinker and Danny Green are hitting above .300. Green has spent a few weeks on the DL and hopefully he will stay healthy the rest of the way.

Second half of the season could be good if things continue to run smoothly.

1904 Review (of a sorts)

Not as good as I had hoped, 4th place with only 86 wins. Not as good as rl or as high in the standings but we did improve once more. The Cubs are taking shape.

Only real injury worry this season was CF Danny Green. Green has been our best offensive player since the beginning and if he could stay healthy, things could be different.

Jock Menefee and Tom J Hughes and Bob Rhoads all won 20 games this season, anchoring a very decent Cubs rotations.

Overall, very promising so far. Have improved each year and with the age of our team not being too bad, we could be in for a lot of good years ahead of us.

Rookie class for Cubs limited to just two Pitchers, Ed Reulbach and Big Jeff Pfeffer. This could be interesting. No hitting or defensive help this season so hopefully the hitters can keep it together. Not sure if either new guy will crack the rotation but a fourth is needed and maybe one of them can grab it and run.

Off season news coming soon.

Spring Training News

- Cardinals lose RHP Al Orth for 4 weeks.
- Cardinals lose RHP Buster Brown for 5-6 months.
- Browns lose CF Hugh Duffy for 5 weeks.
- Cubs lose 3B Harry Steinfeldt for 4 weeks.
- Pirates lose LHP Homer Hillebrand for 5 months.

Ownership has decided once more that we should reach the playoffs. Not sure but in RL, Cubs won 92 games and finished 3rd, Giants again won over 100 games and Pirates finished in 2nd, could be interesting season.

Interesting ending to ST, Reds, Cubs, Beaneaters and Reds all finished with 14-9 records. (Dont really pay much attention to the ST standings as they almost always end up being opposite for me in the regular season.)

Enjoying your Cubs dynasty. I have a question. How do you do the trades in a historical league where you know who is going to be good ahead of time? Doesn't that give you an unfair advantage? Or do you let the computer do the trades? I've always wondered how people get around that in historical leagues.

Cubbies on a roll. At the mid point of our 1905 campaign, we are right there, 11 games above .500 and not very far out of the lead. If Green can stay healthy when he returns (in about a week) and the team can keep going, we could get a shot at the playoffs.

Trading can be interesting and if you noticed, I have not done much so far. I think our biggest pick up was Noodles Hahn. But the reason it is not so easy is I do not use Recalc, so the OOTP development engine takes things once a player is imported.

My initial setting were to have intial import based on entire career and the same for the ratings after that. But, once the import is done, it is up to the OOTP engine to do what it will with the players.

This can be good or this can be bad. Example. Danny Green our CF. He in rl he played 8 seasons, from 1898 till 1905. He has a lifetime .293 average and accumulated 1021 hits. He played in 392 games.

SO far, for me, he has played almost the same time for me, he has a .304 ave so far, has 920 hits and has played in 804 games.

iF he starts every game from now till the end of the season, at most, he will have 875 games. A little behind what he did in real life. But he has a possible better average and may be more hits. He is only 28 so he could play for another 6-10 years.

This is a small example.

To be honest, I do base my trading on what I know of a player and the age. I do not like trading for players older than 30 and unless they are Ruthian in statsture, I usually pass on the trade. I also base my trades on needs and sometimes, but not always, on money.

It is fun without recalc on cause you really have no idea what a player is gonna do and as in Green's account, he has spent a bit of time each year on the dl, so he could have really surpassed his numbers had he not been hurt each year.

First things first. Before I post the year end stuff, I have to say, this season was one of the most exciting I have simmed in a long time. Let me explain.

Coming out of the break, we were in 4th place and ready to make a move. At the end of July, the Cubs were in first place and for the entire month of July, we led the NL, by as many as 3 1/2 games. But, then it was injury time and although nothing major happened, The end of September saw the Giants back in first but only by 1/2 a game.

When the final day came about, the Giants had a half game lead but we lost to the Cardinals and that was that.

What a great ending and it was a great season for the Cubs.
