Pitchers in Initial/Annual Drafts
I think they should all be grouped under the heading 'pitcher'. This might make the drafting a bit more logical. The manager can later assign them positions later or have his manager do it for him/her.

You are preaching to the choir for the most part. I am hoping pitchers in general get a re-vamp for next year.

You can sort by "pitchers", in my experiences the AI will take MR with a 6/10 endurance early (and I've noticed some them become starters). Having to later assign them positions would be tedious, and as it is now - you can switch them if you want anyway - but now, you only "have" to switch the ones that the AI doesn't assign as you see appropriate (which for the most part is minimal). |

Starting pitcher/middle reliever/closer, etc. aren't positions...they are roles. Players should be listed by their position, which in this case is "pitcher".

While true, I don't see any negative difference in making the pitchers "role" their position.
It doesn't restrict the user or the AI in anyway. To me, it offers an "endurance filter" without having to set up the filter. That said. I've never liked "endurance" as a rating. I think almost all big leaguers could be starters if that was the work load they were given on a regular basis. It has always bugged me, that a guy is stuck a career reliever - when I know that more than likely he was the #1 ace starter on his HS/college/etc. team. As a Tiger fan, Joel Zumaya is one of a million examples. He is slotted as a setup reliever, and future closer. Probably give him a "2/10" endurance rating. Joel was a minor league starter, as well as before. The Tigers just feel that he is best suited to come out for an inning every other game, bring the heat, and be done. Not that he isn't capable of being a starter if that's what they wanted him to do. |
