Baseball History, what might have been.

Hey all, I am so enjoying the Cubs dynasty that I currently am running but I am afraid I am going to get tired of it and not want to keep it giong so I am going to launch another Dynasty that I can work on at the same time.

This will be a history of baseball but with a slight twist. As the years go by, instead of dumping teams and having them pass into history, I plan to keep teams around. If a team existed, it will continue. Each league that came into existence will also stay. This sounds like a bunch of work and it is. But the end result is kind of fun and interesting.

There will be some changes to teams names, some teams will play in more than one league more than one time but each will exist as they could have.

There will be a little difference in the I set up the leagues. The National Association, being the original league, will be set up to get the imported rookies from year to year. It will undergo two name changes but it will always be the main league. In this go around, I am going to allow the players to be put into a draft so that history will be a bit different then real ilfe. I also plan to have the draft on March 1st each year. I also plan to alter the schedule length a bit, to make it a lot different. Until 1915 or so, the leagues will all play 140 games each season. This will mess with history even further but its my world, it will be what it will be.

In the NA/NL/MLB, I will handle all the changes, names and what not and expansion. In all other leagues (AA, PL, UA, FL and FBL-explained shortly-) changes will be made each season as they were during the real lifespan of the league. Once the league is to be defunct(they wont be shut down) I will activate the evolution for only expansion and names and that. The rest of it will be the same for each league.

There will be some issues expanding league in the beginning, especially for the NA/NL as it is often stuck with odd number of teams. This is worked around by adding a temp team, doing the expansion and then removing the temp team. This is necessary to make it a bit more realistic when getting players onto the new teams. If the temp team has to draft, those players will become free agents, just to keep it interesting.

There will be no minors for these leagues until sometime in the 1920s as it will overly tax my system and it is just that much more work. I am going to be playing in Commish mode and do not plan to take a team. The free agent pool will be shared but no associations will be made until maybe way in the future.

Settings for the most part will be default. There will be nothing special done for financials, reserve clause will be used for the original time of the league, but once evolution is set up in a league, free agency will begin too. Trading will be legal between all leagues.

I will do this on a yearly reporting. I will try to do a summary of each league, post each leagues final standings, hitting and pitching leaders and will do news reports for each league for pertinent news.

If I have forgotten anything or there are any questions, let me know. Hope yall enjoy, will be doing this one when I can along with my Cubs dynasty.

1871 was the first season for the new game of baseball and 9 teams took the field. One team in particular set out from the beginning of the year to show the rest of the teams what this game was all about and the Olympics from Washington did just that. Winning the inaguraul season by 13 games, never being threatened from the start.

Washington was led by SP Bill Stearns. He won 24 games and had 5 shutouts. On the Offensive side of things, CF Jim Holdsworth, LF Gat Stires, 3b George Fields and 3b Frank Buttery hit over .300.

The inagurual seaon did not disappoint. But not everyone was in the league that wanted to be. The Baltimore Canaries, Brooklyn Atlantics, Middletown Mansfields, Brooklyn Eckfords and Washington Nationals will be joining the league, bringing the team total up to 14 for the 1872 season.

How did you set that up and how will the NL and AL get incorporated if they are.

The original league set up is simple. I set up a fictional league for the National Association. I also import the 1871 season. Once this is set up, I run the draft for both leagues. I then delete all the original players from the fictional league. I then delete the 1871 league and run a fantasy draft and off they go.

As for the later incorporation of the NL and AL, it works easily.

The NA will become the NL in 1876. The teams that do not belong will be transfered to a new fictional league called the National Association. The new NL will continue until 1901 and after that, I will then move the teams that are supposed to be in the AL to the NL and rename the league the MLB.

Hope its not too confusing.

Could you do that as quick start? From the beginning maybe.

The 1872 season comes to an end and The Washington Olympics win again. Not as big a win this year, but they did pull off a double. Of the expansion teams, the Brooklyn Atlantics did the best, going 60-80. Not great but not bad for an expansion. The poor Middletown Mansfields were not good at all. only managing 20 wins.

For the Olympics, Cy Bentley (32), Bill Stearns(28) and Dave Oglethorpe(23) were pretty good. On the offensive side CF Jim Holdsworth, C Deacon White and 3b George Fields all hit over .300 to lead the way.

Two perfect games were thrown and a few other no hitters came along too and it was a good year for the pitchers.

Rochester Forest Citys win the 1873 title, holding off the Athletics and Haymakers. This seaon was not a blow out by any means, each of three teams were in first at one time or another. But in the end the Rochester team was just a little better.

Rochester was lead on the mound by Luis Rodriguez, he went 30-13 with an era of 1.17, followed by Ed Cushman (27-12, 2.04) and Merlin Horne (20-3, 1-73) to give the Rochester team a very solid rotation.

On the hitting side of things, Rochester had the HR King in Lip Pike. He hit .361, with 51 HR and 123 rbis to pace the team. Also hitting over .300 were Joe Start, Tom York anf Fraley Rogers to help the Forest Citys to a championship year.

The expansion is not finished for the National Association. For the 1874 season, there will be a new team added. The Hartford Blues will be debuting next season.

Offseason and 1874 later today.

It is quite interesting. When all is said and done, one league has to be added, to account for the extra National league teams and such, but I have done this already to 1920 for myself but wanted to start over for this dynasty. It is very interesting indeed.
