Looking for Schedule Ideas

I am considering expanding my league from 12 to 14 teams. I currently have three divisions of 4 teams each and the league plays 122 games. Teams play each team in their division 14 times and everyone else 10 times. GMO made a great schedule for me for this season.

So, here's my question:
How do I create an imbalanced schedule with 14 teams? I want to have two divisions of 5 teams and 1 division of 4. I considered 15 teams, but then I have an odd number.

Any recos would be appreciated.

If wanted to jump up to 162 games there are some of those already for 5/5/4 teams.

Keeping the 122 games and quickly playing with some numbers the first option I came up with was much more unbalanced than that 14/10 (division/league games) for the 12 teams. It would be (I think) something like 16/6 for the 5-team divisions and 20/6 for the 4-team divisions.

There may be a way to do something less unbalanced like 14/(6-9) & 16/(6-9), but with leagues with different size divisions it can be difficult to know for sure how well something might work without really diving into it.

If you have a preference for one of those directions I could work on the full layout to actually figure out if (and hopefully how) it could work.

I guess I'd prefer a liittle more balanced since I use a wild card. What are thoughts on 15 team leagues?

For the 14-team, I hope you mean the option with about 2-1 ratio of games per division opponent to games per non-division opponent is okay. I have a hard time seeing it work (at least with the usual sort of series) any less unbalanced than that.

If you are talking one subleague of 15 teams, my preference is strongly against that. I am not fond of having one team necessarily off all of the time.

Two 15-team subleagues with a bit of interleague is workable (though something of a pain to compose). Doing that with three 5-team divisions, it may be manageable with something like 6 interleague series, playing each non-division league opponent in two series (1H/1A), and playing each division opponent in about 4 series.

Yeah - screw the 15 teams!

Sure, take a look at the 2-1 ratio version and let me know what you think - if you want to/can. Thanks!

Here you go. It worked out as I was planning. It is laid out over the same period as the earlier 12-team schedule with 122 games.

It is zipped it up to make it smaller here as an attachment. Let me know if there are any problems.

Excellent. Thank you very much! Now, if I could ask for one more schedule? Please tell me if I am being a pain in the neck. I have a two division, 12 team league that needs a 90 game schedule. I am thinking 12 games agains the 5 teams in division (60 games) and 5 games (2 home 3 away) against the teams in the other division. Thoughts? Let me know seriously if I am asking too much.

For that configuration of 12 teams I am thinking 54 division games (10-11 per opponent with 4-7H/4-7A) and 36 interdivision games (6 per opponent with 3H/3A). Does that sound okay? I think it would fall out relatively easily into a 14 week schedule.

Start date for season? No All-Star Break?

I have the above-described put together (without an All-Star Break). So all it needs is a start date.

Erm, well, I set it to start on a Monday. So the attached is set to beginning the first Monday of May. Is that okay?

Yes. I had forgotten though and at first started fiddling with the wrong thing.

GMO - you rock! Thanks. And, by the way, I just completed my first season using the 122 game 12 team schedule and it was awesome!!! Thanks!
