Clipped from the San Francisco Call...Peter Jackson fought the perfect fight keeping George Chuvalo at arm's length for most of the bout utilizing his unerring straight left and blinding combinations...The challenger worked the body when he could get close but it wasn't until the ninth round that he was able to sustain his attack...A cut opened by Jackson's lightning right in round 4 grew worse as the battle progressed causing Referee Hiram Cook to pause the action several times to have the ringside physician examine the injury...By the end of the 11th round Chuvalo's face was a bloody mask but Cook gave him a chance to continue finally halting it at 2:28 of the 12th round...An examination of the referee's scorecard shows he gave Jackson rounds 1, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8 and the Canadian rounds 2, 7, 9, 10 and 11...Chuvalo later claimed if not for the cut he would have got to Jackson in the next few rounds...Jackson earned 75% of the $15,000 purse or $11,250 plus 60% of 50% of the gate receipts...Chuvalo takes home his 25% of the purse or $3,750 plus 40% of 50% of the gate receipts...Both men were paid $1,000 by the Olympic Club for training expenses and Jackson collected $2,500 in side wagers...It is estimated that more than $200,000 in California alone changed hands in wagering on the fight...

From the San Francisco Call and Los Angeles Herald...Gus Ruhlin's manager Billy Madden nixes the fight with Corbett on the grounds that his boy is still recovering from an injury sustained in the Everett fight...Jim Corbett accepts a smaller purse from the Olympic Club to defend his American title against Bob Armstrong...Armstrong nearly upsets the Californian rushing him around the ring with a furious assault and putting Corbett on the canvas twice....Armstrong either tires or gets careless leaving himself open to a short-arm jolt that stuns him and lowers his guard long enough for Corbett to launch one last desperate attack of his own that breaks through Armstrong's defence and lays him out cold in the ninth round...

From the pages of the Monday morning Detroit Tribune...Stories circulate that Phineas P. Milquetoast the California representative of the International Boxing Union ordered Referee Hiram Cook to stop the Jackson-Chuvalo fight because too much blood shed was bad for the sport's image...Referee Cook denied he was influenced by Mr. Milquetoast and had given Chuvalo plenty of opportunity to get the job done without bias towards the champion....In a related story Donnie "Schemer" Stump manager of John L Sullivan apparently wined and dined two IBU officials in New York with the aim of getting his boy a shot at Peter Jackson's title...IBU spokesman Arnold Rothstein admitted the attempt was made but no assurances were given to Sullivan or his manager...
