What did I do wrong?
I'm trying for a very realistic 1976 season, with trades allowed. I think I set a few things wrong. HEre's my symptoms, playing as the PHillies:
1) Trades were pretty easy. I traded Jim Kaat for Nolan Ryan. The Angels didn't blink an eye - it was like taking candy from a baby. Kaat was definitely in his autumn years, not sure why they allowed it. Trading is set to normal. 2) My rotation is unnaturally good. Granted, it's a very good rotation, with Lefty, Ryan, and Christenson, but here's their stats in July, 1976: Carlton 1.78 Christenson 2.10 Lonborg 2.45 Ryan 2.03 Ron Reed is at 3.3 - still a damn good number. I can see Carlton having a sub-2 ERA, but the other guys should all be higher I'd think. How do I get the most realistic results out of my players? 3) I have no players. I did not fill the rosters with fictitious players, and as a result I have a grand total of 36 players on my team. Currently Ryan and Maddox are out, and at one point I had another 4 players injured, leaving no cover for a few positions. Is there a more complete minor league roster out there, or any way I can fix? At one point I only had about 20 players on my 25 man roster that were in positions they could play. I had 4 catchers on the 25 man squad! Thanks for any help guys! I have been playing ootp since 2007 and this is the first time I've tried historical rosters. Kinda fun! Aside from Nolan Ryan, I traded the Bull for Steve Garvey (much to the outrage of my fair city), and it's really pulled my team together. |

2. Having played fictional leagues that start in 1976 ERA's were always low, and although in a historical league they should be close to what they originally were check your league ERA. if thats normal for 1976 then i would chalk it up that you have good pitching. 3. You get only players that played in 1976 whether they were already active or debuted in '76. There currently are no full minor sets out there. Check you injury setting, sounds like you are on Normal or High for 1976 I recommend Low. EDIT: League ERA in 1976 was 3.50 PHI was 3.08 3rd best http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/NL/1976.shtml Last edited by Chicagofan76; 08-11-2011 at 02:37 AM. Reason: edit |

The ERA for the starters, though, was more like 3.3-3.4. The bullpen was all sub-3's, they were on fire.
I believe there's a setting to base performance on historical figures - which one provides the most plausable results? Quote:
