Starting before 1800?

Just had a neat idea of a league that started in 1648. When I enter that as the game year, it gets automatically bumped up to 1800. The same thing happens for years above 3000, they get bumped down to 3000.

Anyone have any ideas as to why this is, and are there any workarounds?

Lowest you can go is 1800. I've tried to do 1700's (birth of America and what not) but it doesn't go any lower.

Same thing with 3000.

Not sure why the limitations, but yeah that's the way it goes!

Has Markus or somebody else ever said a reason for this?

I started my current league in 1800 in OOTP8 or something. Just finished 2116 in OOTP15. I might have tried to go lower than 1800 too and ended up on 1800 for that reason, but only because for me it gets harder the further into the future you get to think of it as modern time, but for some reason the past was easier.

I'm sure it's a database limits thing. I mean, after a certain point...it's gratuitous.

What did you do for settings before 1871, just use 1871 permanently or autocalc each year so 1801 was 1872 etc?

I'm not pro "setting up my league to mimic the eras of baseball" so i'm not that guy. I'm a "keep stats across eras consistent so you can compare the players," and so that was my goal from the start. Not just with stats but finances too. Makes it easier for me.

I agree with this. I like to start early as well. When my aging vets all have birth years of 2030 or so, it starts getting weird to me

I use a version of the 1871 settings, but I change them slightly to fit my world a little better. Monetarily I do pretty much the same thing.
