"assistant GM" needed?
If we play as "GM and manager," and make all decisions ourselves, is there any purpose to having an "assistant GM" hanging around and drawing salary?

not 100% sure.
if you delegate any team functions to the asst GM, you should most definitely pay attention to this position. i'd keep someone employed, regardless. if you do not delegate, just hire the cheapest person. it has to be better than no asst gm. |

I delegate promotions and demotions within the minor-league system to the assistant GM, because it removes a complexity I don't want to deal with. I decide who is on the big-league roster. When I demote somebody from the big-league roster, whether it's during the regular season or a cut from spring training, I always send the player to AAA, and if my assistant wants to demote him further that is his call.
I like my sim games to be complicated but the idea of having to ponder whether it's time to move that shortstop of the future from short-season A to regular A makes my head hurt. Last edited by old fat bald guy; 03-21-2016 at 07:31 PM. |

Minor league decisions
I do not delegate minor league decisions because I do not trust the AI, Old Fat Bald Guy.
Specifically, I want to insure that my prospects get plenty of ABs and IPs, and play at the position they would likely fill if activated. The AI green and red arrows sometimes seem to be based on far too few ABs or IPs. If I have two good prospects at one position, I don't want one sitting on the bench, so I demote one just to get him every day playing time. My way still leaves most of the complexity to the AI. I start with letting the AI determine depth charts, and then tweak to get prospects in place. Same for SPs and RPs. |

Demote him and then use strategy page and lock him in as a starter and no promotion.

league settings - stats and AI page
select each minor league from teh dropdown box in the top-right corner. once a minor league is selected, look at the left pane of the settings screen. look for something similar to: start based on current potential. your better prospects will get their playing time. you mention: "The AI green and red arrows sometimes seem to be based on far too few ABs or IPs." this is irrelevant. for one you will never or very rarely have a sample size large enough to make more than a wild stab in the dark based on that info. promote based on ratings. if they are competent ratings-wise, then they will develop in an optimal way. their success has no direct bearing on development. if you promote early and they are not competent ratings-wise, their stats will most likely suffer, but they won't develop because their ratings are too low for that league. also, there are a plethora of reasons why stats may suffer, so you cannot assume much with certainty.
