Missed playoffs with 105 wins

Playing as GM for the 1983 Brewers had 105 wins and missed the playoffs. Finished 3 games behind the Orioles who had 108 wins. This game is great.

Great!?

I'd have thrown the hard drive right out the window.

You set an MLB record!

In real life, the most wins by a club while missing the post-season is 104, by the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1942 (104-50-1, finished 2 games behind the Giants). The 1993 Giants (103-59) and 1954 Yankees (103-51-1) both missed the post-season in spite of winning 103 games.

In the minors, the Toronto Maple Leafs won 108 games (108-46, .701) in the 1920 International League season, but finished 2½ games behind the Baltimore Orioles (110-43, .719).

Minnesota Twins won the West with 88 wins. They went on to upset the Orioles in 5 games and then went on to win the World Series.

So this was a 1987 situation, then. Where would the Twins have finished if they were in an eight-team AL East?

Behind the Cardinals, actually.

No, 1983 (7 teams in each division). 88 wins would have put the Twins in 4th place in the AL East. The Yankees were 3rd with 90 wins. Sometimes it pays to be in the right division at the right time.

He was comparing it to what happened in 1987 when the Twins would have finished 5th in the AL East but upset the Tigers in 5 games and went on to win their 1st World Series.

Yes, you're right. Too much Giants vs. Dodgers history.

Can't afford a new hard drive. Maybe I will fire my manager.

Now you're talking my language.

Better yet, fire the AI GM who beat you out and retire him permanently. Maybe you had some inside information about an affair he was trying to keep secret. Maybe he decides that managing Foot Locker has been his life-long passion.

I just finished 1984. This time I only won 102 games but that was good enough to run away with the American League East and go on to win the World Series. I kept my 83 team pretty much together. (How do you brake up a team that won 105 games). The only addition I made was Ozzie Smith. I actually got him in the Rule 5 draft. Can you believe that? My scout said he was a bench player at best. But how could you pass on Ozzie Smith. When I drafted him his rating was only 45, which I thought was too low. By the end of the season his rating was up to 78.
My season score was 154 out of 100. (Not sure how OOTP does the math)

Look who won the division this year. No idea how the division is so bad.
