Crazy college feeder stats, 41 HRs in 72 games, 1900

So I have a 16 team feeder (college) league and a 16 team pro league with only 1 minor league.

I set the college season to 72 games, used 1920 as a season to base the league totals on (for all leagues). The stats came out as I was expecting for both the major and minor leagues, but the stats are crazy in the college feeder league and I did run the auto calc before the season started.

The Auto Calc put the home run modifier to 0.000 and I still had 10 guys hit over 30 homers in a 72 game season, the leader had 41. Batting averages were also in the high .300s to low .400s

Is this a problem with the league totals and the fact that its only 72 games? Do I actually need to edit those totals since the modifiers don't seem to be doing much?

Pretty sure that that's the case. The league totals are actually the most powerful and important setting for OOTP, even more so than the player ratings or modifiers. So if they're off, everything else will be off.

My question is this: if there is an option to add a college or high school feeder league, why wouldn't the game automatically adjust to the shorter schedule? Most people aren't going to know to do that and they're going to wind up having these issues. Same thing with minors, if a short season or rookie team only play 70 games, the game should automatically recalc for the shorter season...

Probably right. It does normally do so when you add a feeder league.

I think your running the 1920 league totals on it messed things up though. So yeah maybe the game should adjust automatically when you do that, but I think very, very few players are going to mess around much with their feeder league modifiers so it's probably not really something that's come up much yet.

yeah if they hit 20-25 homers I wouldn't have even given it a second look, but 41 homers in 72 games! and lots of players doing that.

I thought I read that messing with the league totals can be tricky and sometimes gives the reverse effect, so lowering the HR totals can actually cause more to be hit! I am thinking of just cutting all numbers in half and seeing what happens, I don't need 100% realistic stats for my college league, just something a little more realistic.

Actually i would tend to disagree. i am finding that the totals modifiers, particularily in a historical game, have a tremendous impact in how the stats turn out.
a 1.080 will have quite a difference to 1.040 even though it seems like a small adjustment

totals modifiers is something i want to study more carefully as i feel it has a major imact.

ie for fun try a league say with 2000 home runs as its base and 1.000 for the modifier, then another league with 1500 and a 1.200 modifier. even though the first should generate more home runs, i think the second would actually create more, and certainly more bigger numbers from the top end guys where you really notice what a season is doing or not

This. As mentioned in my earlier post the league modifiers are by far the single most powerful piece of the OOTP stats engine, far more so than even the player ratings. Small changes are the way to go. Big changes can totally screw things up in a hurry as Aumakua found out.

the interesting thing is that I didn't touch the league totals, or the modifiers, I let the game do the auto calc, and it spit out 0.000 for home runs, which to me would mean they won't hit any! so I was shocked when they hit as many as they did, what if it was 1.00, would the leaders have hit more than one per game

hey am just for fun for us
try it

save it as a template and load that for a test if you don't want to mess with teh game you have going
but ya try a year at 1.000, then a year at 0.001 then a year at 2.000 just see what happens to the numbers. would be curious how different the home run numbers are
