Editing the Nation/World Info

My first step before I can start working on my style of fictional leagues is to change out all the nation info with fictional world info.

I saw that the manual says it is possible but there was no info on it. (Although I did just now notice there is to be another manual about customizing?)

Injuries
Players (importing/exporting player data)
Stadiums
Schedules
So, any ideas where I start? I am really excited to get started.

For instance, I'd like to add my own Flags and everything. There's no way to create a league like Laseron Baseball Association without first changing it being an American or Canadian..etc...based league upon creation.

Making a flag . . .

20 pixels x 12 pixels PNG

name the file the abbreviation of the nation

EG The United States = USA

this sort of stuff is in the folder labelled database . . .I could be more specific but I am finally uninstalling last beta build and moving to the production version.

Stand by.

First edit your nations file. You'll want it to look like this:

227,Laseron,U.L.I.,ULI,Islander,7,5,39,100,,,,

227 is the nation identifier, you'll use that in you cities file
Laseron is the name of the nation
U.L.I. i think is an alternate (official?) name of the nation
ULI is the initials for the country
Islander is the adjective for someone who lives in this nation, like American
7 is the continent identifier, it shows up when you explore the world and actually you can't go past 6.
5 is the baseball quality of the nation (1-5, 5 is highest)
39 is the name identifier, used inthe names and first names file
100 is the percentage of names that come from this group

you can have 3 (maybe four) different name groups for instance the United States looks like this:

206,The United States,U.S.A.,USA,American,4,5,0,71,1,27,2,2 all those points to different groups of names.

Then do your cities files. They'll look like this:

Vestuar,1073603,227,Firun,32.28,-73.49

Vestuar is the name
1073603 is the population
227 is the nation, points back to the nations file
Firun is the state
32.28 is latitude
-73.49 is the longitude

to get latitudes and longitudes is suggest printing out a map of the fictional world and placing it over the map of some real place. For Laseron i did the United States. Then you note what American cities are close to the Laseronian cities and guesstimate their coordinates.

Then you edit one of the 40 name groups in the name file if you want to add some distinct names for your fictional world. Wish we had this when we were first starting Laseron...

Fictional world building starts with nations.txt

C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\OOTP Baseball 2006\data\database

Format

ID,Country Long,Country Short,Abbr,Nationality,Region,Baseball Level,Ethnicity1,%,Ethnicity2,%,Ethnicity3,%,Ethni city4,%

206,The United States,U.S.A.,USA,American,4,5,0,71,1,27,2,2

206 = ID number, which will be seen in cities.txt later on. This is what matches the two files up. If I made a CSA as nation ID 227, I would change a great deal of cities in cities.txt from 206 to 227 to reflect that.

Country = fairly obvious, the nation, and yes, using the in the title messes up the alphabetization

Short = short form

Abr = abbreviation, which is important for your flags. name your flag PNG's after the nation's abbreviation. CSA.png would be an example.

Nationality = an adjective describing your citizenship, English, Brazilian, American, Canadian. Google CIA World Fact Book 2005 and you will have all sorts of real world goodies . . .

4 = the continent, in this case North America. See more in continents.xt

5 = baseball quality and 5 is excellent, world class

Ethnicity1 = 1 part of the ethnic component of a nation, it is immediately followed by a % sign

0,71 is the example from the USA. 0 is the American nameset, and 71 is the percentage of generated players using it. 1,27 is the next one. 1 is the Hispanic name set, and 27 is the percentage of names generated using those names.2,2 is last. 2 is the Japanese name set, and the second 2 indicates that 2 percent of American names will draw on the Japanese name set.

So if we want a new continent (to start building our new world) we would have to make the continent # be higher than any existing one and then edit the continent.txt? Because these changes aren't league specific...would be nice if we could just replace the files for one league. Seems custom world online leagues won't just be the usual "download league file and load".

Edit: Well, I can't find a continents.txt...

"4 = the continent, in this case North America. See more in continents.xt"

What does this refer to Raidergoo?

Actually, we may not have a continent.txt file anymore. The continents aren't that important because they only show up on one screen that i could see. Just make that number 7, 8 or 9. And when you go to the explore worlds screen, under continents for your created nation will be non-existent.

But the database is not league specific. But the way it is set up, you can put info for different leagues in different places and it shouldn't affect other leagues.

Working on Middle Earth for our league. City data is easy to get from Encyclopedia Arda (just plugging some population numbers), but I thought I'd try to get the latitudes and longitutdes right.

I love the Internets!!

Beings will most definitely come." - Gladden Field of Dreams

Actually, if you clear the nations.txt file and put 2+ custom nations in it, couldn't you just list their region as anything you want? Or is that hard-coded in the game somewhere that 4 = North America, etc?

The continents are hard-coded, but are only used in one screen in the game, and don't factor into any game logic. But if you don't want to use the default continents, I believe you could leave the "field" blank for continents.

Wouldn't hurt to try it.
