How did I become a coach?

I started a game as GM-only and after a few years the head coach's contract expired and I let him leave and hired a replacement, but now the game shows that I am GM/Head Coach and the new head coach also shows as a head coach.

It now expects me to set the lineup/strategy/etc., but that isn't what I want to do. I just want to be the GM. On the personnel screen where it would show across the top the Owner. GM, Head Coach, and Staff Finances mine instead shows Assistant Coach instead of Head Coach (because it thinks I am the head coach).

I think this may have been caused by the fact that I hired the new head coach a couple of days prior to the original coach's contract expiring. Did that confuse the game, and is there any way I can get out of the head coach aspect and turn that over to the actual person I want to be the head coach?

FWIW, on a whim I hired another head coach and when I did that the person I had initially hired as head coach finally showed up as being the head coach and I no longer have control over the strategy and lineup.

So it seems like I now have what I want and I just have one extra head coach and when I look at the Personnel screen it now shows me only as GM again.
