Random Question about GM Only mode

Two part question.

I am playing sandbox mode, GM only. After about 6 years, it stopped being GM only. It now allows me to set lines, goalies, strategies, etc.

Question #1, why would it do this all of a sudden?

Question #2, at seemingly the same time, all my strategy ratings dropped. I had been hovering somewhere between 75-80 for offense, defense, PK and PP. After this change, everything dropped to 55-60.

Thoughts?

It sounds like you didn't renew your coach's contract/didn't have the finances to do that. You can hire a new Coach under the Personnel option. At the top there's the option for Free Agents.

This just happened to me as well. I posted a question about it (How did I become a coach?) earlier today. I have hired a head coach but he isn't seen by the game as the head coach when it comes to setting lines and strategy.

Hopefully there's a way to fix this and revert back to being GM-only.

FWIW, on a whim I hired another head coach and when I did that the person I had initially hired as head coach finally showed up as being the head coach and I no longer have control over the strategy and lineup.

So it seems like I now have what I want and I just have one extra head coach and when I look at the Personnel screen it now shows me only as GM again.
