Question 1884 draft strategy

I was hoping someone could help me with the roster for a draft I was planning in the 1884 -1885 years. How many pitchers, infielders, outfielders, etc. I have no knowledge of the rosters from that time and how many of each were carried then. Any help, please??

15 is the minimum OOTP allows
3 Starters, I reliever and starters can pitch relief on "off" days.
leaves 11 position players,8 starters and 3 subs.
That's what i use anyhoot.

It depends on the roster limits. Teams in the 1880s might have carried as few as 12 players on their rosters - 2 pitchers and 10 position players (although one or more of those position players might have also been able to pitch). With a 15-player minimum in OOTP, I agree with Spritze that you should have 3 pitchers and 12 position players, although I'd go with 3 starters rather than 2 starters and a reliever (actually, the game shouldn't be creating relievers in the 1880s). You could get away with 2 pitchers and 13 position players, especially in the earlier years of the decade.

Since you're using real players, I would just take a look at the draft pool and then do some math to figure out what an even distribution of position groups is per team. Then you can either manually draft for everyone, or you can re-distribute players post draft if you want to involve the AI, ie Detroit has 1 extra pitcher, Cleveland 1 too few, re-assign Detroit's worst pitcher to Cleveland, etc.

In my fictional league (1883) I carry:

4 Pitchers (2 in the rotation, at least 1 additional capable of starting)
2 Catchers
5 Infielders
4 Outfielders

The reserve roster is also 15 men, and I carry the exact same numbers on it. It's the "B-Team".
