Even if he ends up 8-11 with a 1.73 ERA (my new projection) he has damn well earned the damn Cy Young. As well as the Nobel Peace Prize. And whatever Good Neighbor award you can get in Corona, just for not tainting the Gatorade barrel in the dugout with rat poison to really stick it to those damn team mates of his…

Uah. Mets. -.-

And the Mets betray deGrom again. I am not even surprised. Just pissed.

And against Sale for only three innings, the kid gloves treatment which I guess you can't blame the Sox for that. At least DeGrom did not take the loss.

Also, the streak of starts with three runs or less conceded continues, now at 27.

And the Tampa Bay shenanigans don't even start to count in that regard.

DeGrom's last start of the year, 8 innings, 2 hits, no walks, no runs, 10 strikeouts (to get his career total to exactly 1,000 K's). Final record: 10-9 (double-digit wins and a winning record), check. Final ERA: 1.70 over 32 starts and 217 innings, best in the majors (nearest ERA competitor 2.45), check. Playing all year for a lousy team and probably would have a 20-9 record otherwise, check.

Jacob DeGrom should be the NL Cy Young Award winner for 2018. Period.

This was interesting, I think, though I did not need the silly sabermetrics to tell me that Gooden's season was even more spectacular than DeGrom's this year. A look at the standard stats in the box in the upper right confirms this and it's not based just on wins and losses. (Click image for larger view.)

I don't see the need to throw dirt here. Does the author go out and tell his dear aunt that this was a great apple pie, but not the best apple pie ever, to her face?

I guess the page had to be filled with *something*.

Unrelated, I just finished with the warmed-up version of last night's 13-inning, 1-0 win over the Marlins (how are they always playing the Marlins at the end of the year?) that was Captain Wright's last game, and now I am on everybody having post-sex smokes.

And I totally didn't cry. No I didn't! You're lying!

Yes, from what I read, it was pretty poignant. David Wright was a very good player and apparently he is a very good man.

Too bad about Wilmer Flores (no contract offered, free agent now) but if you guys land Robinson Cano and Jeff McNeil becomes the backup (and McNeil is a better player than Flores), then poor Wilmer would definitely be expendable.

Sigh. Wilmer was a folk hero around here, but let's be fair. He has no position in a league with NL rules, and he was prone to the most wicked injuries, like hitting a ball off his own nose.

Not sure how we want to pay for Cano especially. Not sure I even want Cano (and I even have him on my PT team!). They keep trying to plug the keystone gap with old players making lots of dough and it has not worked out so far…

Although MLB says they might get rid of Flay Flooze, and previously I was not sure you could trade him if you were ready to pay 110% of his salary and accept no more than a Kleenex the other GM sneezed into in return.

Edit: Haha, Cano is 36, comes off the PED suspension, and will make $120m until he's 40. I hate the new Mets GM and his guts already.

Yeah, hard to know what the Mets are doing here. M's kicking in just $20ish million apparently, and the Mets are giving up two of their best prospects.

I'm not a Mets fan, so take this with a grain of salt, but this looks to be a good deal to me, especially since the Mets are also getting Edwin Diaz in the deal (57 saves, 1.96 ERA).

Let's see who they are giving up. Jay Bruce, who stinks (.223/9/37) and Anthony Swarzak, who stinks (0-2, 6.15) plus three prospects. Emphasis on the word "prospects" as in, unproven.

And, as always, I don't care about the money in a trade. It's not mine, naturally. If anything, this is their investment in free agency.

Sure, if you were in love with Jarred Kelenic, you are going to be disappointed. But it may just be that the Mets are not that far away from true respectability, even contention, given their starting pitching. If I were a Mets fan, I'd much rather see Kelenic go in this deal than Noah Syndergaard.

I think with the Mets starting pitching they could be a contender with some offense. I can't say I completely like this trade as Cano is coming off roids and is 36 years old. I am not sure I see him being the missing piece, the closer they got is good though.

Yes, Bruce and Swarzak were grabs in the toilet (Bruce twice, funnily), but those seem to be good prospects, and Cano is indeed *36*. How is this going to be different from Neil Walker and Asdrubal Cabrera the last few years? Veteran middle infielders that were constantly hobbled by injuries, and the Mets have a proven track record of downplaying their players' injuries and running them out even if they are visibly hurting. Or, well, Cespedes. How are they going to keep Cano healthy? It's madness.

That leaves $17m or so per year to Cano they have to pay themselves, whatever Diaz makes on top of that, and - oh, by the way - how are they going to pay deGrom and Syndergaard when they reach free agency?

This is a terrible, terrible, TERRIBLE deal.

But it sure fits the general Mets narrative well........

Hey, at least if the Syndergaard trade rumors turn out to be false, Mets fans will have something to celebrate there, right? :P

THERE IS STILL HOPE.

Cano wants to wear #24, which the Mets have not generally given out (except by accident to some no-name in the 90s) ever since Willie Mays took a bus around Shea on his way to retirement.

Oh please have a fallout over that one oh please have a fallout over that one oh please have a fallout over that one oh please have a fallout over -

I had to read the article twice I can't believe they made this trade. It's just not fair..... to depress the fanbase this far ahead of spring training.... but why would we expect anything else?
