Setting up League with mix of historical and modern players

Hoping someone can help make use of what looks to be a beautiful game OOTP21.

1. I want a simple league setup with National League and American League with 2 divisions of 3 teams in each.

2. I want to have the ability to draft from historical players and current players. I only want MLB players. (This is where I'm struggling the most)

3. I want nothing more than Commisioner and manager options. No financial options. My Dad and I don't want the extra complexity. Just simple Draft and manage our teams through the season.

This seems extremely difficult to setup. Please help

You can try to create a Random Debut league and just pick the seasons you want to draft from.

1.I click on New Custom League from main screen.

2. Click Create Fictional League

3. I then have Number Of Sub leagues = 2

4. I then set Number of Divisions = 2 for each sub league

5. I then set teams in the division to 3 for each division

6. What do do next?

6A. If I click next, I see select minor leagues and uncheck all minor leagues and click next.

7. I check Hold Inaugural Fantasy Draft and uncheck Automatically adjust league strategy when advancing to new year

7A. I set my schedule settings and then click next step and i'm on 4 out of 5 on wizard. I then uncheck enable automatic evolution of game and click next.

8. I'm now on Step 5 out of 5. I check "play in commisioner mode" and "Cannon be fired" and I'm lost at this point. I want all teams to be managed by an actual person. I also have seen no way to pick the players I want as part of the draft pool. I must be using the wrong wizard or something wrong.

Thanks for your help.

If you want to use random historical/current players, the best and easiest way is setup a historical league, and then click on the “use random players” checkbox (you can even select ranges of years). The league setup and teams will be from a real year, but you can always edit/add/remove them in the “edit league structure” menu in the league settings. Though the default settings tend to work best anyways.

You also could import historical players into the default 2020 league by clicking the same box on the historical tab of league settings.

Technically you can also do this in fictional leagues but it’s too messy and not really worth it.

Also, there is a finances tab on the settings menu, though you can only turn it off after the inaugural draft is finished.
