Historical League Part 2
I rarely see any straightforward Historical Leagues posting for openings anymore. I wonder if there are any left. Particularly ones that are in the 1901-1950 era. I used to commish the MLBC which started with OOTP2 with the 1905 season and lasted thru the 1980 season with OOTP 6.5 . Have been kicking the tires on maybe jumping back into joining a league but I don't ever see any that fit my criteria. Are there any historical leagues that use only historical players with historical league structure??? Seems they all are fictional, or random entry or some relegation type crap or some other hybrid league if they aren't modern leagues....
I posted this previously and all I managed to do was get people together to create another league that doesn't fall into the above criteria. So here's to trying to get interest sparked again...

Nope just an historical league in the early days of modern baseball. Just don't want ahistorical setup such as free agency, fictional/minor league players, relegation, random entry, non-mlb players added ie negro leaguers. Just a straight-forward historical league in the early days of modern baseball.

Not exactly what you're looking for, but closest that I know of: Max Retro Baseball

And no pre drafting your team you start with the players that are on the team that year. If someone is going to startup a league like this I'm in. |

To me to be historical, it needs to be recalc. I've been in too many leagues where Cristy Mathewson can't make the majors or Dave Kingman is a triple crown and gold glove winner. To me that's fictional with real player names.
That's why I passed on the other league. Like many, everyone has their own flavor. That is mine.

I'd be willing to run a league with those parameters, though I'd probably prefer to start in 1930.
I ran Greatest Generation Baseball which started with OOTP 4 (I think - it was a long time ago) and ran from 1941 thru 1962 and died off in a misguided attempt to go from 6.5 to OOTP 2007 or whatever the first SI-based version was. I'm currently launching my 1979 league, but if there's interest in a straight, stock-roster, recalc-based historical league in the 30s, I'd definitely commish it and host it on my site at simsportleagues.com - Joe

Seems deadball baseball doesn't get much love, personally I find it the most fascinating period of baseball....

Sounds like this might have some momentum. I can probably bring in six to eight guys from my other leagues to round out the original group of GMs, but I'd like to give the folks in this thread first crack since this is where the idea originated.
It's looking like:
Anything in there people don't like/what to do differently? This is probably as close to a straight historical league as we could do.

Could it start in 1920? Just after the Blacksox scandal.

Unfortunately I've done the 20s a bunch and while it's a fun era, I'm looking to go with the 30s this time around. The "Babe Ruth" factor is less strong after 1930 since other sluggers were coming along and the Babe wasn't outhomering every team in baseball any longer.
There are really three leagues I'd love to do: an 80s league (which I am currently recruiting for), a 30s league and a "start from the beginning" league that would start in 1871 and do a season a week until 1900 and then go to a slower pace.

I am game for either the 30's or the 1871 one.
