Slaabovian Baseball Chronicles, at least

Placeholder entry, background national historical information and current national flag to go here. May be long, at least to a degree, but I'll still try to be as concise as possible here, just the same. Please bear with me here. Thank you. CD out.

Information update 001:

The sizes and shapes and all of the territories, states, and Federal District shown in the next post are not necessarily accurate totally in my plans for the nation's territory, et cetera. The areas should rank as follows, at least in terms of the current Slaabovian States and the Federal District listed below, for population and area of each such place, as of the 1901 Federal Census. A note will be made at the end regarding each of the current territories as well, as needed and desired.

Folliston is ranked first in terms of population and territorial area, whether it's land areas or watery areas.

The Federal District is ranked second in population, but ninth in territory.

Turtletania is third in population and eighth in territory.

Damonallo is fourth in population and sixth in territory.

Martinelandia is fifth in population and fourth in territory.

Olsontonia is sixth in population and seventh in territory.

Ottosylvania is seventh in population and fifth in territory.

Bublitzania is eighth in population and third in territory.

Rainbowland is ninth in population and second in territory.

If the territories were ranked as well, I'd estimate Turtleoklania currently ranking between Bublitzania and Rainbowland in population and between Olsontonia and Turtletania in territory. As for Wellnitzalgo, I'd estimate it would currently rank between Ottosylvania and Bublitzania in population and between Turtletania and the Federal District in territory, if I'm not too mistaken here. Supposing that they were states, that is, but neither territory will become a state for at least a little while longer.

Information update 002:

The land that is now called Slaabovia was discovered after a few dozen people ranging in age from somewhere around 9 to about 16 years of age in Terran years were unexpectedly whisked away from their birth world to the Earth that Slaabovia now exists on by an interdimensional warp or some other similar sort of phenomenon, sometime around 2013 BC. In time, those 28 young people ultimately began producing the first inhabitants of the territory that Slaabovia now occupies, seeing as they had no known way to get back to their actual world of origin somehow. Many natives of Slaabovia can still trace back their known and confirmable ancestral trees to several, if not all, of those 28 people, at least in part. But most of them may not be able to do so entirely, for any possible reason or reasons, seeing as it's been so long since the discovery of Slaabovia's territory in this world's timeline, after all, folks.

There were at least two people whisked away for each present-day Slaabovian state and/or territory, if not more. And in the course of time, those who were born Sartagaron on their original world became known as Cirriddiquans, from what they called their new land. They called it Cirriddiqua, because they considered their new land Sun-Touched Earth, AKA the Land of the Golden Sun. Although many outsiders might not reckon it that way, being rather unfamiliar with the native language, of course. At least at first, anyway.

More than 3400 years later, after having been largely isolated from the rest of their new world by unknown circumstances, among other things, and around the time of Columbus's first journey of discovery to the New World, their homeland was discovered by various explorers and others more than it had ever been before since the beginning of Cirriddiqua's history and people, and the invasions, occupations, and/or colonizations by people from several different Terran nations ultimately began. From about 1500 to about 1850, then, the native population sought to regain full control over its own homeland from those who had come to it to invade, occupy, and/or colonize it every so often.

It was during this time that Slaabovia's most famous King and best-known soldier was born somewhere in Lima and its area. That person was Clovidequano Dovatha. I do not have much of his history or of his family and/or related details written down yet, probably, but I hope to do a lot more writing about him and all those things in the very near future, if at all possible, for sure, folks. If and when I do, I'll try to let you know if and when I can, and when it might be appropriate enough here or elsewhere, et cetera.

That's all for now, I think. CD out.

Map of Slaabovia

Rudimentary map of Slaabovia. Turtleoklania and Wellnitzalgo are territories, and the other labeled areas are either states or the Federal District. I hope to put a better version or multiple versions of maps for Slaabovia here later, if and whenever possible. But this should hopefully suffice at least a little bit here for now, at least. IF you have any reasonable questions that aren't answered in later posts for this thread, please feel free to ask, if and when you like, folks.

You may NOT share this with anyone else either online or offline without my express knowledge and/or permission. Nor can you copy it and post it anywhere without either or both of those things here as well.

It took several hours, at least, to do this map from personally hand-drawn maps on paper, with many instances of erasing and relining, et cetera, on my computer along the way. And quite often on a pixel-by-pixel basis, even, at that. So I would greatly appreciate it if you would respect my copyright here, folks. Thank you. CD out.

The history of sporting and gaming events in the territory now occupied by the Slaabovian Republic somewhere in the middle of the North Atlantic Ocean is quite extensive, with some sports and games quite popular, as of 1901. I will elaborate much more about that history later on, if and whenever I can and whenever it may be warranted enough, I think.

But for now, at least, the sports and games that are most often played or competed in periodically over in much, if not all, of Slaabovia's inhabited areas areas are as follows. Keep in note, however, that they are all not necessarily ranked here in order of popularity among the inhabitants of Slaabovia, folks:

Baseball/softball
Football (Gridiron-style)
Basketball
Ice hockey/field hockey
Ice skating/figure skating
Hunting
Fishing
Horse racing
Dog racing
Camel racing
Llama racing
Soccer
Track and field events
Archery
Fencing
Wrestling
Boxing
Dancing
Rifle shooting and other gun sports
Scavenger hunts
Swimming
Diving/scuba diving
Sailing/yachting
Boat racing
Canoe racing
Spelunking
Golf
Tennis
Board games
Card games
Gymnastics
Weightlifting
Skiing
Speed skating
Snowshoeing
Sledding
Cricket (very rare)
Racquetball
Handball
Bullfighting
Hiking
Biking
Endurance contests
Polo
Water polo and other water sports
Martial arts
Camping
Adventuring

These are many, but probably not all, of the various sports and games that are periodically participated in or practiced, et cetera, by the inhabitants of Slaabovia at the current time. There are probably more such pursuits that are followed by them, but these are at least most of them, if not all of them, at the current time, as I've been able to figure out here well enough by now. CD out.

Temporary park will be Fenway Park 1940. The permanent park, at least for decades to come, once built, will be called the Hornets Hive.

Amjasi is a city somewhat inland with a few railroad lines and other transport routes in and around its general area. It is a city with a population of just over 870,000 as of the 1901 Census. Parts of it lie in a hillier area, and it is about halfway between Benclimil and Tracyton, more or less. It is some distance away from Follisland's border with Bublitzania, as well.

It's south of Benclimil, and north of Tracyton. It's a major agricultural center and many battles took place in and around the area of Amjasi over a few centuries as the land's natives periodically tried to free their homeland from foreign invasion and/or occupation, et cetera, as best as they each could, whenever they could, as well.

Much more information about Amjasi and its team in the SRL to follow. CD out.

Temporary park Forbes Field 1959. The permanent park, at least for decades to come, once built, will be called the Chargers Corral.

Benclimil is a city of about 930,000 people, as of the 1901 Census, located somewhere north of Amjasi. And it is in an area where many major military battles took place during the natives' attempts to regain full control over their homeland from those who had invaded and/or occupied it, et cetera, for a few centuries.

In more modern times, it has been rather steadily developing as a major horse racing center in Slaabovia, and many famous Slaabovian jockeys hail from the area. Although monetary-based betting is largely prohibited in the Slaabovian horse racing industry, with some very rare exceptions, by long-established Federal Law.

Much more Benclimil-related information to follow, as soon as possible. CD out.

Temporary park Busch Stadium 1997. The permanent park, at least for decades to come, once built, will be called Heartsongs Field.

Folliston is the capital city of the Slaabovian state of Follisland. It lies just east of the Willson Brook and west of Willson. As of the 1901 Census, its current population is around 4.26 million people. It has also seen many major battles over the centuries since foreigners found the territory now occupied by Slaabovia and began to invade and/or occupy parts of said territory, among many other things it's seen since its founding.

In more modern times, Folliston, besides being the state capital for Follisland, is a major center of activity for many media outlets and educational institutions in Slaabovia. Many of the best-known and the most famous novelists and book publishers and journalists, along with many scientists and/or musicians, have come from this area and/or other nearby towns in its area. It is moderately cosmopolitan, with a wide variety of ethnic backgrounds for its inhabitants. But even so, most of its people still have rather high percentages of Slaabovian-based ancestry in their respective family heritages, just the same.

Much more Folliston-related information to follow, as soon as possible. CD out.

Temporary park Yankee Stadium 1923. The permanent park, at least for decades to come, once built, will be called Valhalla Stadium.

Olsonton is an inland city of about 630,000 people on Robedavi Island south of the Slaabovian mainland, just a bit south of St. Louis and a bit to the east of Bracamontela on it, as of the 1901 Census. It is not only a major commercial center, but it is in a major farming area for Slaabovia, as well. Along with being a thriving entertainment center for Slaabovia, primarily along the lines of theatrical and opera productions, for example. It didn't see many major battles while Slaabovia was still Cirriddiqua, but it did see at least some combat activity in and around its general area. Many well-known explorers and/or merchants often used to hail from the area, or nearby ones, for that matter.

In more modern times, however, it has turned into much more of a commercial and agricultural and manufacturing hub than it was even about fifty or so years before the present year of 1901, and its financial prospects look to be even more positive as more time passes, if enough things go well enough for it and its general area in the very near future.

Much more Olsonton-related information to follow, as soon as possible. CD out.

Temporary park Metropolitan Stadium 1965. The permanent park, at least for decades to come, once built, will be Camels Park.

Rocíoton is a coastal city of about 1.78 million people, as of the 1901 Census, and it is one of Slaabovia's major ports. It is directly south of Willson, northwest of Foalwi Island, and north of Robedavi Island just across the Straits of Foalwi and Bleskoinga. Many of Slaabovia's well-known naval personnel have historically come from the area in and around Rocíoton, as well. Several major naval and military bases, fortresses, and/or castles are in the area, and several are still actively used by the Slaabovian Republic's Army, Navy, Marines, and Coast Guard, for example, as they seek to keep Slaabovia's territory as safe and as secure as they possibly can.

In more modern times, Rocíoton has still remained considerably more cosmopolitan than most other known places in Slaabovia have been over the years ever since the last foreign invaders/occupiers/colonizers finally left Slaabovia's territory behind once and for all. While it is not quite as cosmopolitan as Slaabojevo may be, or at least not so much as of present, it is still more like that than most other Slaabovian towns and cities at the present time. It was one of the last cities of departure for those that had invaded, occupied, and/or colonized various areas of the Slaabovian mainland. So much of the city's current population is not descended primarily from native Slaabovian ancestry, even though it's been about fifty or sixty years, more or less, as far as anyone can figure, since most foreigners left Slaabovia behind for their own proper nations elsewhere in the world.

Much more Rocíoton-related information to follow, as soon as possible. CD out.

Temporary park Cisco Field. The permanent park, at least for decades to come, once built, will be called Spaceport Central.

Sara City is a city of about 1.34 million people, as of the 1901 Census. It is located roughly south-southwest of Folliston, and sits between the Willson Brook and the Willson River, before the Willson River merges into Willson Brook just a bit west of Folliston. It is a city that is a bit spread out on a few bluffs west of the Willson River.

And it is rather well-known for several outer space-based observatories, et cetera, especially to the southwest of downtown Sara City. Many inventors and scientists, especially astronomers, have often hailed from this part of Slaabovia. It could ultimately prove to be a major hub for future manned air and space travel, as a result, sometime in the future, whenever that might be. There are many people, and have been many people, in the area that have sought to develop much faster modes of travel over land, water, and air for quite some time, in fact. Not only that, it is a major Slaabovian center for education-based purposes, at least for the most part, in certain professions and the like.

The Rockets were named primarily because of very high interest in outer space and interest into hopefully better developing quicker travel speeds through various modes of travel in terms of those sorts of environments. One of the most famous and most popular locomotives known of in the history of Cirriddiqua/Slaabovia is commonly called the Thundering Rocket, and the team is named partly after it. Think something like a turn-of-the-century locomotive seen here in the States, perhaps.

Much more Sara City-related information to follow, as soon as possible. CD out.

Temporary park Memorial Stadium 1986. The permanent park, at least for decades to come, once built, will be Cougars Range.

Sarahnapool is an inland city directly south of St. Peter and northwest of Rocíoton, and it has a population of just over 880,000 people as of the 1901 Census. It is at least a little more compact than most other major Slaabovian cities, in terms of where people live in its innermost areas, at least, but it still is a bit spread out, just the same. Especially towards the northeastern areas of the city's layout.

In more modern times, it is a city that is a moderate commercial center and that has several museums and art galleries, along with a few parks. Also, big cats of all kinds often rove in and around the area. Plus there is some farming done nearby, and there is a rather considerable amount of open area in the area, especially towards the northeast and east, for that matter.

Much more Sarahnapool-related information to follow, as soon as possible. CD out.

Temporary park Tiger Stadium 1970. The permanent park, at least for decades to come, once built, will be the Ursine Ballyard.

Shmala is an inland city located in and around a semi-forested area of Slaabovia, with a population of just over 970,000 people, as of the 1901 Census. It is northwest of Sarahnapool and directly south of Folliston. Some moderately important military engagements were fairly common in the area over a few centuries prior to Slaabovia's invaders/occupiers/colonizers departing Slaabovian territory once and for all in the 19th Century.

In more modern times, Shmala has started to develop more than it had prior to the Kingdom of Cirriddiqua becoming the Republic of Slaabovia. Especially in the areas of art, fashion, and fine cuisine, for example. There is also a major zoo in Shmala's general area which is very popular with the local area's citizenry, and bears and other big animals are still quite commonly seen in and around the area out in the wild.

Much more Shmala-related information to follow, as soon as possible. CD out.

Temporary park Polo Grounds 1923. The permanent park, at least for decades to come, once built, will be Golden Sun Park.

Slaabojevo is the national capital of Slaabovia, and it sits to the southeast of much of Bublitzania, as it is also directly east of Rocíoton. It is a very cosmopolitan city of about 5.72 million people as of the 1901 Census. It was once known as Choimaku City, but that name is now used for certain older parts of the city, as is Old Choimaku, among other names for parts of the Federal District.

In more modern times, it is a major center for media outlets, language-related developmental work, theological discussions and studies, sports, commerce, science, art, education, historical events (especially in the years before Cirriddiqua became Slaabovia), and also many well-known military and naval personnel for centuries have hailed from the area. It also has two rivers running through it to the sea, for Slaabojevo is a coastal city, and those rivers are the Follis River and the Da Vinci River.

The Da Vinci River has most of its length running through Bublitzania, even though it starts just east of Borgianteklena in Turtletania, and just north of the Pliguria Mountains that form the entire border between the Slaabovian states of Follisland and Turtletania. As for the Follis River, it begins when five streams merge together to form it near both Many Forks and Lima. Those five streams that merge together to form the Follis River are the Okna, the Chaklu, the Moqua, the Linqua, and the Smikulo. Clovidequano Dovatha, in my nation's history, is from Lima's area, and you will read more about Lima at some point, after the CKU's created, for sure.

Much more Slaabojevo-related information to follow, as soon as possible. CD out.

Temporary park Mile High Stadium 1993. The permanent park, at least for decades to come, once built, will be Huskies Field.

Tracyton is an inland city located just north of the Follis River and some distance south of Amjasi, and it has a population of nearly 590,000 people, as of the 1901 Census. It is primarily located in an area that is both somewhat semi-rural and somewhat semi-urban in nature, and it is a major Slaabovian art center, as it has been for many years, even during the years that Slaabovia was once known as Cirriddiqua.

In more modern times, it is fairly well-known for its dog racing tracks, dog shows, boat racing, and its fishing. Of course, seeing as Federal Law normally prohibits betting monetarily on various sports-related competitions, primarily horse racing, gambling monetarily on them is very rarely seen, if ever. Even in places where animal-related sports competitions are often held, that is.

Much more Tracyton-related information to follow, as soon as possible. CD out.

Temporary park Wrigley Field 1938. The permanent park, at least for decades to come, once built, will be Woodlands Park.

Tran City is an inland city in a moderately forested area of Slaabovia, and it has a population of nearly 740,000 as of the 1901 Census. It is located west of Shmala, and is well known for hunting of various game animals, mostly smaller ones, but not just for smaller kinds of such animals, even in times before Slaabovia's territory was discovered and invaded and occupied and colonized by people from other parts of the world.

In more modern times, it has begun quickly developing a rather good-sized lumber industry that could potentially thrive for many years into the future, and it is also turning into a major financial and entertainment area, as well. If any number of things are handled properly enough in the future, it could develop a very strong economic base and all in it, even within thirty or forty years, perhaps. But only time will tell, of course, whether that will ultimately prove to be the case for Tran City and its local area, folks.

Much more Tran City-related information to follow, as soon as possible. CD out.

Temporary park Ebbets Field 1932. The permanent park, at least for decades to come, once built, will be the Willson All-Sports Forum.

Willson is an inland city east of Folliston and north of Rocíoton. It has a population of around 2.86 million people as of the 1901 Census. It is well-known for its varied fauna, various military-related sites, and its fine cuisine, to name just a few of the things it's been rather well-known for over the past few centuries, at least, if not for even longer than that. It lies in a moderately elevated area of Slaabovia, and there are a few nearby hillier areas, especially to the north of the main parts of Willson.

In more modern times, it has begun to develop a well-earned reputation for its nationally-famous Athletic Club and several assorted sports training centers in the local area. Not only that, it has also begun to get notice for its media outlets, its educational opportunities, its entertainment potential, and its still-new fashion industry. And what's more, there's even a little bit of farming activity in and around the area as well, for that matter.

It is mostly populated at present by people with still-high percentages of actual native Slaabovian blood in their veins, so to speak, at least as of the current time. But there's been at least some faster growth in the non-native Slaabovian population in terms of percentages of ethnic heritage over the past couple of decades since the mid-1850's, it seems.

Much more Willson-related information to follow, as soon as possible. CD out.

In the last six or so months of the 19th Century AD, starting in AD 1900, talks began between several rather influential people, both in the Slaabovian Republic's national and state and territorial governments and out of them, with a view to try and see if anyone would be interested in potentially creating the first entirely professional baseball league in Slaabovian national history. People like the leaders of the tricameral legislature, the Slaabovian Republic's President, and the Supreme Court's Prime Justice, for example.

The Speaker of the Slaabovian House of Commons was among those to first suggest the idea, one Sceparnio Hozumi. And soon after, many members of the House of Lords and the House of Elders soon came to support the idea now being discussed more and more as time passed, not only in the halls of government, but also among the general populace of Slaabovia, once they heard of the idea themselves.

It wasn't long before that caused a strong well of support for the idea among the populace sufficient to get the national government, at least, investigating the possibilities of creating such a league, which would also be the first entirely professional sports league in the nation's history. Names were bandied about for this potential league, all throughout August and September of 1900, before related bills were quickly passed as needed in the three-house legislature, and submitted for approval by the President of the Slaabovian Republic. Ultimately, those bills named the new prospective league the Slaabovian Republic League, and opened up a six-week application process, starting from October 1 to November 11, for prospective cities to apply for franchise spots in the new two-division league for its inaugural season of play in 1901.

Ultimately, after much discussion and many applications, the cities chosen to participate in that first season of play for the Slaabovian Republic League were as follows:

Amjasi, Follisland
Benclimil, Follisland
Folliston, Follisland
Olsonton, Follisland
Rocíoton, Follisland
Sara City, Follisland
Sarahnapool, Follisland
Shmala, Follisland
Slaabojevo, Federal District
Tracyton, Follisland
Tran City, Follisland
Willson, Follisland

Several other cities had applied for spots as well from various other Slaabovian states and/or territories, but were not able to arrange sufficient enough financing for their potential operations in time, or were not chosen for other reasons when the choices of inaugural team locations were. But they were still guaranteed the first potential spots for any possible minor league teams that might be created, if this new league was popular enough in the near future. Or for possible expansion of the top professional baseball league in Slaabovia, if at all possible and/or appropriate enough, that is.

Those cities that were rejected as potential inaugural members for the SRL, for whatever possible reason or reasons then existing, were as follows:

Aaronville, Turtletania
Bublitz City, Bublitzania
Damonopolis, Damonallo
Dutch Cove, Martinelandia
Lima, Folliston
Mankato, Folliston
Odanoskiko, Ottosylvania
Odlasvoi City, Olsontonia
Ottoskarje, Ottosylvania
Rainbow Bay, Rainbowland
St. Peter, Follisland
Tierra De Oro, Turtletania

Once the original cities were chosen for the Slaabovian Republic League's first season, several people applied to be the owners of the related franchises granted to the relevant cities, and naming-related contests were quickly held for the new teams, among other business that was quickly attended to, as time required that it be. Names were decided on in very short order, even as several tryouts were held for potential players in the new league, with the interested players required to be between 16 and 23 years of age, in all cases, without exception, at least for the first potential draft pool for that new league.

The franchises' owners were each chosen before any of the necessary team naming-related business had been completed by any of the teams that were now being formed, or would be formed. And those owners were as follows, with national heritages/ancestry, et cetera, listed below, if known, once they were chosen for certain franchises by the necessary people in Slaabovia's national government:

Amjasi Hornets: Edgar Furtado (Born January 20, 1850, near Amjasi, but with his family's ancestral home being in Lisbon, Portugal)
Benclimil Chargers: Klaas Willighagen (Born August 25, 1863, near Slaabojevo, but with his family's ancestral home being in Amsterdam, Neth.)
Folliston Cupids: Tamotsu Dreamgaze (Born February 6, 1848, near Folliston, but with his family's ancestral home being in Jerusalem, Israel)
Olsonton Vikings: Thorvald Storgaard (Born September 16, 1853, near Olsonton, but with his family's ancestral home being in Copenhagen, Den.)
Rocíoton Camels: Miguel Vargas (Born November 11, 1847, near Wordzap, but with his family's ancestral home being somewhere in Peru)
Sara City Rockets: Billy Hunter (Born February 4, 1861, near Rainbow Bay, but with his family's ancestral home being in Birmingham, England)
Sarahnapool Cougars: Mario Horstmann (Born May 10, 1848, near Crystal City, but with his family's ancestral home being in Bremen, Germany)
Shmala Bears: Matt Radi (Born December 21, 1853, near Borgianteklena, but with his family's ancestral home being in Snowbird)
Slaabojevo Knights: Dustin O'Brien (Born August 7, 1845, in Slaabojevo, and with his family's ancestral home being in Slaabojevo)
Tracyton Huskies: Aidan Brown (Born September 4, 1849, in Folliston, but with his family's ancestral home being in Tracyton)
Tran City Bucks: Gabe Hines (Born February 27, 1847, in Cayuna Hills, but with his family's ancestral home being in Many Forks)
Willson Athletics: Bai Xiao (Born February 7, 1854, in Rocíoton, but with his family's ancestral home being in Shanghai, China)

You will see much more about each of those people and/or their organizations, if and whenever possible and appropriate and all, folks. Lord willing, and all, of course, that is. I'll add more to this post later, as the need or desire and all ultimately arises, for sure, if possible.

But for now, at least, I'll have to leave this specific post at this particular length here, I think. CD out.

Bublitz City was one of the main training areas for prospective young knights and other royal fighters during the years Slaabovia was called Cirriddiqua in the long-lasting times of the monarchy, before the Kingdom of Cirriddiqua ultimately turned into the Slaabovian Republic. The official national name change only happened after the last occupiers of Cirriddiqua/Slaabovia finally left it behind permanently sometime in the 19th Century AD.

Cirriddiqua/Slaabovia had been largely occupied by colonizers and/or invaders since around the time of Christopher Columbus, and had been fighting for its renewed complete independence and autonomy from those coming from various other nations in the world of that time. Many more details will be covered later in the dynasty reports, as time allows and all. Thank you for your help and all so far here. CD out.

Here are two shots showing preseason predictions for the SRL's first season. I do not yet know just how accurate they'll ultimately be, of course. But we'll all hopefully find out soon enough, I'm sure. Lord willing, and all, obviously. I'll try to better update certain nation/team/location-related posts periodically, as time permits and warrants, for sure. CD out.
