MBL news: Game 5 -- Cincinnati 10, Des Moines 3

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. proved to be a virtual one-man wrecking crew hitting for the cycle as he powered Cincinnati to a 10-3 win over Des Moines which clinched Midwest Baseball League World Series title in five games for the Skyline.
With the win, the Skyline completed a dominant run through the MBL season. At 107-55, they posted the best record in the league by seven games and in the postseason dropped just one game in each round to go 7-2 overall.
Down 1-0, Guerrero tied it in the fourth with a solo homer off Des Moines starting pitcher Sixto Sanchez.
Cincinnati then broke the game open with a four-run fifth.
Guerrero again was a part of it with a two-run double off Sanchez.
Francisco Meija plated the other two with a double off reliever Dane Dunning.
The Skyline added two more runs in the sixth, again Guerrero was the primary culprit driving them both in with a triple off Dunning.
For the game, Guerrero was 4 for 6 with a double, triple, homer, two runs scored and four RBIs.
On the mound, Micah Reed allowed three runs on five hits over six innings. He struck out seven and walked two.
Sam Freeman handled the seventh inning.
Tim Hill took care of the eighth and recorded the first out of the ninth.
Braden Zarbinsky retired the only two batters he faced, as Cincinnati claimed its first championship of the Midwest Baseball League.

Walkers news: Buxton dealt to Twin Cities for LHP Lodolo

After two disappointing seasons at the plate, the St. Louis River Walkers have dealt 29-year-old center fielder Byron Buxton to the Twin Cities Snow Cats for left-handed relief pitcher Nick Lodolo
Signed as a free agent before the 2022 season, Buxton has excelled in the field earning a gold glove in his first year with the Walkers but his lack of production at the plate made him a part-time player by the second half of 2023.
In 2022, Buxton batted .225 with six homers and 20 RBIs, while in 2023 he hit .219 with 11 homers and 40 RBIs.
He missed a large chunk of 2023 with a fractured finger but upon his return did not produce and was only starting against left-handed pitchers the last two months of the season.
In return, St. Louis receives a 25-year-old left-handed reliever in Lodolo, who should combine with Jake Brentz and Brad Hand to give the team three strong left-handed relievers.
During the 2023 season, Ludolo pitched in 75 games going 7-5 with a 3.66 ERA.

While some believe spring training marks the start of the baseball season, in many ways it really begins at the start of salary arbitration hearings as team's open up the process of building their roster as they head to spring training.
So with that, we'll end the 202 thread on the St. Louis River Walkers and move onto 2023.
We'll call it: 2024 St. Louis River Walkers -- Why can't this thing be fixed?
