Alltime Baseball League

Note: This is restart of the ABL thread I started a few weeks ago, as I went in and re-rated every player in the game in the same detail I did my old Pastime Baseball League thread. Much happier now, so...we proceed Gonna repost the few setup posts with players and then get started!

I have always been a tremendous fan of cross-era matchups. Way back when, I released a Franchise Stars roster set for OOTP, featuring the best players to play for each team. Several years later, I would run a longstanding dynasty called the Pastime Baseball League, which brought together players of all eras. I ran a boxing universe under the same premise.

I haven't had the game in several years, "real life" getting in the way. But when I got the email about the recent discount, I decided to grab the latest version of a game I always enjoyed.

A writer by trade, my favorite part of the game was writing dynasties. I love the writing, but also the discussion with other board members about its goings on.

And so comes my latest dynasty, which I hope will be as well received as the priors:

The AllTime Baseball League will feature 16 teams in 2 leagues, each with two divisions of 4 teams. There will be no wild card. Division champs advance, that's it.

There are no minor leagues. Each team will have a 25-man roster and a 15-player reserve roster.

The player pool is as such:

All players at each position have been arranged by WAR. The top 200 at C and IF positions, the top 500 outfielders, the top 1000 starting pitchers and the top 300 relievers earn eligibility.

From there, a random generator listed the players in no particular order. The first 50 at C and the IF positions, first 165 outfielders, first 225 starters and first 80 relievers, are eligible for the inaugural draft. Again, these are NOT the top players at each position, they are just the first listed after randomizing the order of the top players.

Each year's amateur draft will be 100 players, a draft of 5 rounds, including the next few players at each position in the order after the randomization mentioned above.

I will not control any teams, so I'll just be observing along with all of you!

Reports will be monthly writeups, converting to day-by-day for pennant races over the final two weeks of the season and the postseason.

While I set get the league set up (I have to get the initial draft class imported), I'm going to post the initially eligible players who will be part of the ABL's kickoff!

Questions, comments, etc. always welcome!

Thanks for stopping by!

And lastly the relievers, which is obviously loaded toward more modern players. But I feel like relieving has become such a role, that relievers merited eligibility separately as opposed to just saying the top pitchers on WAR, which would've put less-than-journeyman starters ahead of guys who were real solid relievers, and that didn't seem right to me. So...here they are!

  • Schedule will be a 160-game season

32 games against the other 3 teams in your division
16 games against the 4 teams in the other division
  • NO interleague play
  • Inaugural draft will be held in serpentine fashion

Off to the Races
Louisville Thoroughbreds make Wagner top pick

LOUISVILLE - The Alltime Baseball League draft kicked off with the Louisville Thoroughbreds drawing the first choice in the star-studded draft. And their pick is one nobody can question.

Manager Sparky Anderson's squad made shortstop Honus Wagner the first choice in the inaugural ABL draft, and the superlatives flown about the 23 year old. But the biggest is simple: he has no weakness.

The consummate five-tool player, Wagner is expected to slot into the heart of Louisville's order and anchor the most important defensive slot in the field. Perhaps the only criticism of Wagner is he isn't graceful...just productive.

"Nobody ever saw anything graceful or picturesque about Wagner on the diamond. His movements have been likened to the gambols of a caracoling elephant. He is ungainly and so bowlegged that when he runs his limbs seem to be moving in a circle after the fashion of a propeller. But he can run like the wind," said one scout.

When reached for comment, Wagner politely declined to say much, answering with no sense of arrogance to his words, "I don't make speeches. I just let my bat speak for me in the summertime."

The Thoroughbreds hope it'll speak starting in the spring.

GH
Sounds very exciting... looking forward to following the ABL.

Will player development be on?

Are player ratings based on career stats?

Development is on. Starting ratings based on career averages. Potential based on peak 3 seasons weighted. All using Clay Davenport's Translated Statistics, which place players across eras on the same playing field.
