Do You Play As GM, MGr or Both?

I tend to play as GM & MGR but I am starting a few new sims and not sure if i want to do both. i know i will be GM but not sure if i want to manage as well.
Wondering how most people play.

I have my hand in every aspect of my Red Sox team. 14 seasons, play out every game. I usually auto-assign the minors after all draft picks are signed and after September call-ups, but that's the only AI involvement...actually I use the new defensive auto-alignment feature in game too.

GM and sorta manager. I set the lineups using the 7-day lineups screen, but simulate the games.

GM, but I can overrule the manager on lineups, although I rarely do. However under "strategy" I sometimes indicate a player is to be the starter at a particular position. My league is fictional, by the way.

I set myself up as Manager/GM, but during the season I only manage the occasional game. I do not manage 162 of them. I am more hands on during the playoffs though.

I mostly play as GM/MGR so that's how I answered. However, I find it more challenging to play as GM only and allow my manager complete control over lineups etc.

I used to try to manage and gm but found it's more fun to go up higher in the clouds and gm only. I even take it a step further and allow the AI to decide who to move around in the system but I'll override it if I don't like that they called up someone or didn't call up someone that they should.

i gm and make 'mini-me' as a coach

i set lineups and the coach's strategy (gm-legacy mode with alot of delegation). i'll tweak the coach to get a lineup i want or control lineups when neccessary.

I have to do manager/GM. I use a lot of platoons and the AI isn't smart enough to take advantage of the pieces on the roster.

if you want a coach, for any reason, you can use GM-Legacy mode to control lineups.

it's no different than being coach, except you can also hire a coach.

I've traditionally done both, but find myself transitioning to a more GM role to allow me to get deeper into my leagues (number of seasons). I love playing the in-game out, but it's tough to go more than a few seasons given my currently available free time.

So far, I’m the only one who has chosen manager only.

Andy, I just made us 2. I am a little surprised at the answers, and will be curious if more manager-only answers come in as the poll gets more votes.

I prefer manager-only as the part I love most about the game is managing the games out. The drawback is the GM still makes some simply insane moves, no matter what I try with the editor.

That said, I have wound up starting games way too much and only getting a week or two in before I start over. Very frustrating.

Yeah, it’s always a struggle for me to keep a league going. The GM does make some moves that I don’t like, but it helps some that I stick to fictional leagues. It’s rare if I make it past one season since I play manager only, but I have high hopes with my current league.

that's my problem with manager only... loss of control. i'd hate being stuck with terrible choices by an AI gm. too much frustration for a video game

i tailor my coach, as i mentioned, which allows for simulation with at least some influence on choices in the games. if you want to make it through more seasons, it's a viable option. can still manage a game(s) when you want too. you'll just have to hire new versions of you on occasion and re-do the strategies etc...

maybe a "gm-legacy mode" for managers is what you need! obviously can't be 'legacy' for the manager but similar result in game behaviour. (unless older versions had that too?)
