So Long, OOTP Mod Squad

I note the apparent passing of OOTP Mod Squad, where I got a number of useful mods in years past. Good job guys, whoever you were. Thanks.

The domain expiring isn't a big thing. It could easily be back up within hours.

It's been down for a couple of weeks now.

Yeah, but I sort of "grew up" with OOTP Mod Squad. It still had neat stuff that I do not see elsewhere, like Bogart's stadium pack which I have been using through five versions now. (Side note: Five (5) versions already! Three years: 6.5/2006/2007/8/9. Six if you count 6.12 separately. Wow.)

FWIW, I'm not surprised.

Yes, I think PadreFan's excellent mod site helped put them "out of business."

And let's hope that Padrefan keeps it going. I've seen a few OOTP related sites come and go (i.e. JoeRock's OOTP site).

I was just about to post a proposal that OOTP host its own mod site when I realized why they could not do so - MLB licensing restrictions. These sites have to be third-party for that reason. This is why I carefully archive everything I download - you never know when a valuable resource is going to disappear on the Internet. (That's also why I don't trust online games or even online licensing services for that matter; I miss the days of having the CD and the activation code printed on the jewel case. Of course, Microsoft upgrading Windows usually poked a hole in that arrangement anyway.)

Just to be clear, it was never my intention to put anyone "out of business." One day in 2005 I got (another) new Mac and wanted to try out the new iWeb application and needed something to create. It was going great until I realized I was going to run out of server space & bandwith quickly. Luckily, Jazzrack came along and gave me the server space and bandwidth I needed.

Anyway, I enjoy helping out, so I hope to be able to do this for as long as the game is around.

If anyone wants to send me that stadium pack, I'd love to host it!

Just to be sure, no disrespect or ill will was intended by that comment. By 2007, it looked like they had stopped maintaining the site and no new uploads were appearing there while your site continued to grow and pull in the business. It's logical to make the connection and if it happened that way, it happened, that's all.

It's on its way. As I said in my message, this is "subject of course to complaint from one Mr. Bogart in which case, I am sure, you will remove them promptly. I like them because they are stylistic and realistic at the same time, and the field positions are all exactly the same."

Thanks for the work you do to support the OOTP community.

Things change. Life and OOTP go on.

According to OOTP itself, OOTP MLB play (modern and historical) outnumbers OOTP fictional play three to one.

Five thousand thanks for a non-modder? I never thought I'd see the day. Thank you for your support.

That's good to hear Padre and if you do decide to take your site down please let us know in advance!

However, I doubt you will disappear anytime soon (fingers-crossed) .
