Contraction

How does OOTP handle team contraction? If you manually delete a team in the offseason, what does the system do with the players for that team. Throw them into free agency? Schedule a draft of the contracted players?

If you contract your team, all of the active roster player become free agents. Minor leaguers stay on their teams unless you start simming and then those teams do what they want since they are unaffiliated.

There is not a contraction draft possible. Usually what I do..is when I want to contract a team and say, create a new team in their place, I will either move everyone off the active roster to the minors or trade all of the active roster players to the new team and then affiliate the minors of the old team with the new team's one.

Then you're only deleting one team (the contracted club) and that's it. If you're just contracting and not replacing, then yes...they'll all become free agents and then you'll need to delete all of their minor league clubs too, unless you don't have minors activated then it's easier.

All of those words said, it's pretty straightforward a process regardless.

It's easy enough to alter a free agent draft into a dispersal draft, but it has to be done carefully.

I wouldn't worry about it. I've heard some stories about crazy things happening with contraction in OOTP, but I think they're apostrophal.
