Peek-A-Boo Auctions

I don't understand the point of this tactic. Someone lists a card at a really low bid price (with no BIN) for 10 minutes or even less. Invariably, it does not sell because very few potential buyers see it.

I just saw a 97 Newhouser listed for only a few minutes at 35K with no BIN. The card is consistently selling at around 45-50K and probably would have sold quickly with a BIN of 40K.

If the seller is really interested in selling the card, why not list it with a longer time? If they are afraid to put it out there for fear that it might sell, why list it in the first place? If they want fast money, why not put a BIN on it?

EDIT: The card was re-listed with a 45K BIN this time... for 20 minutes. I still don't understand the short time.

whenever I do this, it is because I have another auction for a player I want and am looking to raise funds for that auction before that one ends.

Then put a BIN on it.

EDIT: Maybe the idea is that the auction is so short it doesn't need a BIN?

Ah yea I usually do use a BIN, thats a good point. Although I guess with the time of the auction it isn't strictly necessary

Thanks. I do see them with a BIN most of the time so maybe the person just forgot in the example above.

Why do people keep listing the same card for 15 minutes? It doesn't sell, so they list it again for 15 minutes. The auction expires and it is back up for the same price thirty seconds later... with another time limit of 15 minutes. Why so short?

Well, I like to sort for expiring auctions, so that card would be constantly in my face.

Not that this alone makes me buy anything.

Sounds like a lot of wasted effort that could be better spent actually playing OOTP ...

I hadn't thought of that. It actually could be the reason because the card was one that isn't sold often and the seller was trying to get the average price (which is probably too high for today's market). So he might have been employing some aggressive marketing tactics. It does sound like wasted effort.

10 minutes or less? Nah, you're just catching the card at the end of the auction. You cant list something for less than 15 minutes.
