Walkers news: May 31: Kansas City 7, St. Louis 6

A two-run pinch-hit homer from Jedd Gyorko highlighted a four-run bottom of the sixth inning for the St. Louis River Walkers, giving them a seemingly comfortable 6-2 lead over the Kansas City Pit Masters at Busch Stadium.
But it wasn't.
The Masters scored twice in the seventh -- Joey Gallo with a two-run homer off Jonathon Holder -- and the eighth -- RBI double from Yasmani Grandal off Brad Boxberger and run-scoring single from pitcher Tyler Thornberg off Andrew Miller -- to tie it.
Kansas City then won it with a run in the top of the ninth, after Eduardo Escobar reached with a two-out single off Miller.
He later scored on a Brett Phillips double off Jake Diekman.
Gallo had a big game at the plate for the Masters going 3 for 5 with a double, a homer, two runs scored and three RBIs.

Walkers news: June 1 -- St. Louis 2, Kansas City 1

Andrew Benintendi hit a two-run homer off Kansas City starting pitcher Dinelson Lamet in the bottom of the first, and that's all the Kansas City River Walkers would get, or need, to post a 2-1 win over the Pit Masters at Busch Stadium.
Walkers lead-off hitter Albert Almora had opened the bottom of the first with walk, putting him aboard when Benintendi hit his 20th home run of the season.
St. Louis managed only one hit the rest of the way, Benintendi connecting for a lead-off double in the bottom of the eighth.
Benintendi's homer paved the way for Aaron Nola to earn his sixth victory of the season. The right-hander went six innings, allowing just one run on four hits. Nola (6-2) struck out seven and walked two.
Kansas City got its only run in the fourth inning when Joey Gallo scored on a wild pitch.

Walkers news: June 13 -- Cincinnati 6, St. Louis 3

Stephen Strasburg took a no-hitter into the sixth inning and the Cincinnati Skyline jumped out to a 5-0 lead, on their way to a 6-3 win over St. Louis at Riverfront Stadium.
The loss ended a six-game winning streak for the River Walkers.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit a two-run homer off St. Louis starting pitcher Jacob deGrom in a three-run bottom of the first inning to stake Cincinnati to an early 3-0 lead.
Francisco Mejia hit a solo homer off deGrom in the fourth and Yasiel Puig had an RBI single in the same inning, as Skyline upped its advantage to 5-0.
St. Louis had a pair of batters reach via walk in the first five innings, but didn't get its first hit off Strasburg until deGrom led off the sixth with a single.
The Walkers would score twice in that inning -- Andrew Benintendi with an RBI double off Seung-Hwan Oh and Rhys Hoskins with a run-scoring sacrifice fly -- but would never get any closer as Cincinnati got one of those runs back in the bottom of the sixth on a Puig double of Jonathan Holder.

Walkers news: June 14 -- St. Louis 3, Quad City 2

Down 2-0, the St. Louis River Walkers scored once in the sixth inning and twice in the seventh to pull out a 3-2 win over the Quad City Thunder at Busch Stadium.
A two-run homer from Robinson Cano off Walkers starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks in the top of the second staked the Thunder to a 2-0 advantage.
But shutout for six innings by Mike Fiers, St. Louis came to life in the sixth inning when Albert Almora led off with a single and scored on a Michael Conforto single.
The Quad City bullpen unraveled in the seventh as St. Louis scored twice to seize the lead.
Reliever Ryan Buchter walked three of the first five batters to load the bases.

Chris Devenski then took the mound and first walked Rhys Hoskins to tie the game and then Conforto to put St. Louis in front.
Outside of the two-run homer from Cano, Walkers starter Kyle Hendricks turned in another strong outing, allowing two runs on three hits over six innings. He struck out nine and walked three.
Four relievers combined to cover the final three innings -- with Keone Kela tossed a 1-2-3 ninth for his 14th save.

Walkers news: June 20 -- Cedar Rapids 3, St. Louis 2

Tied 2-2, Cedar Rapids pushed across the run in the top of the eighth inning -- when Dominic Smith singled with two outs off Jerry Blevin to score Keon Broxton -- to give the Golden Grapplers a 3-2 win over the St. Louis River Walkers at Busch Stadium.
Broxton had reached on a two-out walk from Blevins and then stole second, setting the stage of Smith's game-winning single.
Back-to-back doubles from Adeiny Hechavarria and Brock Holt off Cedar Rapids starter Kevin Gausman in the second inning staked the Walkers to a 2-0 lead.
